Technology: Will Apple Adopt Windows? John C. Dvorak of PCMag seems to think so. As Dvorak says, “This would be the most phenomenal turnabout in the history of desktop computing.”
Music: Take a look at the influences of new band Mainstay. Which one of those influences is unlike the others?
Translation: The folks at Better Bibles Blog interviewed J.I. Packer last week and are now discussing the interview which has been posted in part. They don’t seem to agree with Packer about very much. You can read various entries in this archive.
Evolution: BBC News is reporting that predators drove humans to evolve. “The popular view of our ancient ancestors as hunters who conquered all in their way is wrong, researchers have told a major US science conference. Instead, they argue, early humans were on the menu for predatory beasts.” Mmmhmm…
Baby: Congratulations to the GirlTalk group and Jannelle in particular. Jannelle (daughter to C.J. and Carolyn Mahaney) gave birth to a healthy baby girl yesterday afternoon.

John C. Dvorak has a reputation for spouting off the most ridiculous theories, almost all of which have proven to be wrong. He’s in the business of selling words, and the more inflammatory his words are, the more traffic he gets, and the happier his editors are.
My $0.02 is to disregard Dvorak’s comments. Apple has spent a lot of time and money on OS X, and they would lose a lot of their faithful (myself included) if they adopted Windows. As well, Steve Jobs has a bit of a personal vendetta against Microsoft.

Mike,
It’s true Dvorak says some silly stuff, but he’s always entertaining. He also points to some cool new technologies at times - that others aren’t really talking about. I always make a point to read his articles, even while disregarding his predictions (and others) that Mac will drop OS X.
Seems to be hardly any Christian influences in that list for mainstay. And speaking of John, I agree with the last two comments.
In fact I can prove that Dvorack doesn’t know what he’s talking about, he says…
Bigger companies than Apple have dropped their proprietary OSs in favor of Windows — think IBM and OS/2. IBM also jumped on the Linux bandwagon over its own AIX version of Unix. Business eventually trumps sentimentality in any large company.
IBM did drop OS/2 but they haven’t dropped AIX, it really depends what system you are using from IBM and where they use it. AIX is still strong and kicking, and they use Linux for various other things as well.
Linux is IBM’s replacement strategy for OS/2, if you do some searches or even read their site you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Anyway, back to work.
Seems like there’s a dog food called Mainstay…
I am always interested in knowing if bands are reformed in their theology or not. But I don’t really care in this case since they sound like a bland mix of Switchfoot and Anberlin. I am sure they will be huge…
The evolution link is interesting speculation - unprovable speculation is what we have come to expect from the BBC.
They did carry another interesting, and very surprising evolution article recently, but this time with some basis in fact: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4648598.stm
This should encourage us to remember that the Scriptural argument for God’s existence (Ps. 19:1, Rom. 1:20) still has power.
