A La Carte (06/05)

Monday June 5, 2006

Music: Switchfoot is offering a new, unreleased song for download on their site. They are currently in the studio working on a new album which is scheduled for release this fall. And there was great rejoicing.

Weird: On June 1st, 2006, Secret Service agents showed up at the office of Great News Network in Dallas, Texas and demanded their entire stock of $1 million dollar gospel tracts that are produced by Ray Comforts ministry, Living Waters. The tracts are used by Ray Comfort and his co-host Kirk Cameron and have been promoted on their national television program. Christian Worldview Network has the story (click and then scroll down a little bit).

Terrorism: This weekend the Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrested 17 muslim men who were planning to carry out a terror attack here in Canada. Dr. Haykin has some good thoughts and a link to a news report. “we must never forget that among the people for whom our Lord Jesus died are those who today call upon Allah. And there is coming a great day when they will cast this idol to the winds, the bats and the moles, and be converted and worship the Lord Christ.”

I found some stuff (incl a TV news report) here on the Living Waters website.

Think I’m gonna apply for the Secret Service. Apparently, having a brain is optional, so it should be a fairly easy gig.

I’m just throwing this in here….

I listen to “The Blend” on XM while driving. It’s a mix of music from the 70’s thru today. They don’t play Christian music, per se, but they’ve been playing a song by Mercy Me pretty often. The song doesn’t mention Jesus or God but it’s hard not to know that it’s a Christian song. Funny what people will listen to and think it’s contemporary/alternative.

In searching for news about the Secret Service grabbing Ray Comfort’s tracts, the only mention is from WorldNet Daily, and a few very small websites. The point is, I ask, can anyone offer proof that it actually happened? Is it a real story, or is it bogus? I ask because I have lived through previous Anti-Christian Urban Legends (FCC shutting down Christian broadcasting, etc.). I hope this is not the beginning of a new Urban Legend.

I am very suspicious of the story. Something isnt right about it. If the Secret Service did this, they would have no problem making a public statement, the NYTimes and all would loudly proclaim the silliness of these Christians counterfeiting money. But, all is quiet. What gives?
