A La Carte (10/21)

Modern Day Lepers
Ali writes about women afflicted with vesico-vaginal fistulas (VVFs). This is a problem almost unknown in the first world but epidemic in the third world. It leaves the women as social outcasts, utterly rejected by their families.
Social Media in Real Time
This site offers amazing counters, showing just how quickly social media is growing.
Hitchens & Wilson at Huffington Post
Christopher Hitchens and Douglas Wilson both write for Huffington post on whether religion is absurd. "Last fall, we went on tour debating the topic "Is Religion Good For The World?" Our arguments were captured on film for a new documentary, Collison. Are our morals dictated to us by a supreme entity or do discoveries made by science and reason, make Atheism a natural conclusion? You decide."

Thank you for linking to Ali last week. I have been reading her daily since then, trying to catch up in her archives. Her blog is truly amazing. Praise God there are people doing what she does so that some women, even if it is 21 at a time, can find healing.

Thank you brother, I needed to read that tonight. Sometimes pride is a lot deeper in our hearts than we even know it and when sin exposes that, it can be devastating. Your post reminded me to run to the Lord and his promises and commands and trust in Him as the only God of my life.

the work that is done in those fistula clinics truly changes the lives of the women and their families. a good friend of mine worked with mercy ships to start a fistula clinic in freetown, sierra leone, west africa. this has led to some of the women, mostly muslim, being led to christ. our church's involvement with the friend/physician has led to our involvement with a pastor over there. we have been able to support children in school, farmers raising crops, and planting a series of local churches in the villages reaching muslims with the gospel. all thanks to sending a doctor over to help start a fistula clinic. to god be the glory!
