Yesterday the meteorologists around these parts were talking about a “weather bomb.” In the end we didn’t see anything even close to resembling such a phenomenon. I wouldn’t say we’re disappointed, but, well, maybe we are just a little bit. It sounded exciting.
A Detox Review - Here’s a very encouraging review of Sexual Detox. “I highly recommend Sexual Detox to any Christian man. If you've personally struggled with porn and you are a married man, I commission you to read Sexual Detox aloud with your wife in the room (after you confess and repent with her about your issues). If you're a single dude, I commission you to saturate your mind with good Scripture until you fall asleep.”
Corruption - This rather interesting page shows the countries that experience the most corruption. “The 2010 Corruption Perceptions Index shows that nearly three quarters of the 178 countries in the index score below five, on a scale from 10 (highly clean) to 0 (highly corrupt). These results indicate a serious corruption problem.”
Digital or Paper Textbooks? - “They text their friends all day long. At night, they do research for their term papers on laptops and commune with their parents on Skype. But as they walk the paths of Hamilton College, a poster-perfect liberal arts school in this upstate village, students are still hauling around bulky, old-fashioned textbooks -- and loving it.” Give e-book technology a few years to mature and I wouldn’t be surprised to see digital dominance. But we’re not quite there yet.
The Undistracted Widow - The Undistracted Widow is a book I’m hearing good things about.
I Am Second - Josh Hamilton will soon be playing in the World Series (and may well soon have a MVP award). Here he talks about his life and faith.

but how do we know the countries receiving “cleaner” corruption grades aren’t just better at it? i mean, i know for a fact that australia, france, germany, and sweden paid the researchers to have the findings lean a little bit their way. okay, i don’t know that for a fact. but it’s possible, right? i suppose this research outfit sent different people to different countries to get their results. if even just a few of those guys accepted cash in exchange for higher marks, then this map is altogether colored incorrectly.
therefore, i propose we do the research for an “employee of the ‘corruption perceptions index 2010’ corruption perceptions index 2010.” let’s get to the bottom of this.
Here’s a photo of Josh Hamilton speaking at Catalyst in 2009 (Atlanta) as he was interviewed by Ken Coleman.
I found the link to Transparency International’s report on corruption to be quite timely. We just hosted here in Lancaster County, PA an amazing man with an amazing biblically-based ministry in central Africa. Dr. Augustin Hibaile founded the Center International for the Development of Ethical Leadership (a.k.a. CIDEL) in 2005. In a mere five years, God has opened doors for him to minister at the highest levels of government in his own country (the Central African Republic). In addition, he has received invitations to hold workshops and seminars in at least another half-dozen African countries, all of which like the C.A.R. are struggling with corruption. If anyone would want more information on CIDEL, they could contact me, Pastor John F. Smith at jsmith@gracewv.org.
Here’s a Larry King interview with Hamilton… His God-centeredness and the freedom with which he speaks of Christ is very encouraging!

I am kind of on the fence with Hamilton.
He is absolutely a sinner who is saved by Grace, but he seems to be the latest “Christian Celebrity” that everyone is excited about. I remember reading a magazine article in some Christian Magazine about how the Bass player from Korn became a Christian. Why are Christians so excited to hitch our wagons to these new Christian celebrities? Am I supposed to cheer any louder for the guy from Korn than my neighbor who lives across the street?
After Hamilton’s relapse last year, ( http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4385960) I am not sure if it is healthy for him or us to hitch our wagons to him.
I love watching Hamilton hit, I love watching his interviews, but I am worried about him being the latest Christian Celebrity to fall.
I don’t think celebrity or fame does most believers any favors. How many people can possibly live up to all of the adulation or not get swallowed up by it?
Yes, the weather was “exciting” yesterday! (I’m glad it wasn’t garbage pickup day.) I guess exciting weather, like other aspects of the U.S., doesn’t transfer well across the border to the north.
I am not sure if it is healthy for him or us to hitch our wagons to him.
I think there are boundaries to our enthusiasm. I’m glad to be excited about the guy and to believe the best concerning him and his profession of faith. I don’t think this is the same as hitching my wagon to him.
Concerning Josh, I was just wondering if others had dreams before coming to Christ?
Thanks, Jeff
