A La Carte (10/27)
October 27, 2010
Yesterday the meteorologists around these parts were talking about a “weather bomb.” In the end we didn’t see anything even close to resembling such a phenomenon. I wouldn’t say we’re disappointed, but, well, maybe we are just a little bit. It sounded exciting.
A Detox Review - Here’s a very encouraging review of Sexual Detox. “I highly recommend Sexual Detox to any Christian man. If you’ve personally struggled with porn and you are a married man, I commission you to read Sexual Detox aloud with your wife in the room (after you confess and repent with her about your issues). If you’re a single dude, I commission you to saturate your mind with good Scripture until you fall asleep.”
Corruption - This rather interesting page shows the countries that experience the most corruption. “The 2010 Corruption Perceptions Index shows that nearly three quarters of the 178 countries in the index score below five, on a scale from 10 (highly clean) to 0 (highly corrupt). These results indicate a serious corruption problem.”
Digital or Paper Textbooks? - “They text their friends all day long. At night, they do research for their term papers on laptops and commune with their parents on Skype. But as they walk the paths of Hamilton College, a poster-perfect liberal arts school in this upstate village, students are still hauling around bulky, old-fashioned textbooks — and loving it.” Give e-book technology a few years to mature and I wouldn’t be surprised to see digital dominance. But we’re not quite there yet.
The Undistracted Widow - The Undistracted Widow is a book I’m hearing good things about.
I Am Second - Josh Hamilton will soon be playing in the World Series (and may well soon have a MVP award). Here he talks about his life and faith.
One of the highest and noblest functions of man’s mind is to listen to God’s Word, and so to read his mind and think his thoughts after him. —John Stott
