the problem with the “P & J” Bible is that people will tend to read the words “justice” and “peace” throughout as referring to temporal justice and peace. God’s justice and peace are warehoused, ajudicated and fully resolved in the courts of Heaven.

My concern is less with people reading and proof-texting like mad, because… well, they’re going to do that anyway. Just like how some take Jesus saying “little children” or “little ones of mine” to mean children (which they usually don’t) instead of his disciples (which they usually do). But I digress…

I guess my real concern is more with the people writing the study notes—if they actually did their homework, awesome. But if they just did a wordsearch and highlighted, then there’s a problem. We shall see, I suppose.

I’m not sure I sympathize with the “Oh boy…” tone here regarding the Poverty and Justice Bible. Tim, it almost sounds like you’re perpetuating the conservative evangelical mindset that poverty and justice are unimportant concerns for the Christian. Conservative Christians for too long have promoted a mindset that God’s plan is to rescue us out of this world, rather than to rescue us so that we can transform this world. Poverty and Justice are major themes in Scripture and major concerns in the mind of God.

That being said, I’m not vouching for this particular study Bible since I don’t know much about it. I’m just trying to understand what’s behind the “Oh boy…” comment.
