A La Carte (11/11)

2008 Christmas Music
Christianity Today has their annual roundup of the latest in Christmas music. I'm 0 for 20 for this list, though I may check out at least a couple of them.
The Ideal Age to Marry
USA Today asks when is the ideal age to be married. As you'd expect, it's later instead of earlier.
Sermon Prep and Preaching
My friend Julian interviews my favorite preacher about sermon preparation and preaching.
Bailing out the Auto Makers
I can't help but wonder...is this Bush's "air traffic controller" moment? This site has some interesting facts and a graph that says a lot.
The Urge to Scream
I'm glad I didn't know about this when I was flying home. Mary shares a silly little anecdote from the plane ride home from the Dominican Republic.
Bracing for the Future
Dr. Mohler was recently featured in an ABC News segment dealing with religious conservatives and their prospects under an Obama presidency. You can view the clip here.
Deal of the Yesterday
There is an amendment to yesterday's deal of the day. Monergism has extended the discount offer to any leather ESV Study Bible, not just the calfskin. Click here to read about the deal.
Deal of the Day - How Sweet the Sound
You can't beat this. Covenant Life Church has released a great album of hymns--traditional hymns with traditional melodies. I've been listening to the album for a couple of days now and am really digging it (especially "How Firm a Foundation"). You can get it at the above link for whatever you feel is fair--no questions asked (or for free if you tell five friends about the album).

What are your thoughts on the ideal age to Marry?

I got married at 21. All three of my sisters got married at 21. It's worked out awfully well for all four of us. So I'm going to go with 21. :)

Yup, you could've had a lizard in your pants leg! (shudder)

Mary, who got married at the insanely young age of 19 and doesn't regret it for a second. (I think God knew we had a lot to do, so he stuck us together early!)

Ideal age to marry? I think that depends on the person. I needed a lot of growing up in my early 20s. For me, getting married younger probably would have made life difficult, and knowing myself a lot better now, I will probably make a better choice now. On the other hand, at 27, I'm really not seeing many single, godly men around, so it looks like the age to marry (ideal or not) is a lot younger for most people in the church.

One of my sisters was 21 when she got married (he was 22), and she is happily married several years later. The other sister got married at 27 (he was 32) and is also happily married several years later. They are very, very different people.

I will say that I've reached that point where I start to wonder if I'm ever going to meet that special someone, and a real part of me believes that once we hit that point, we've passed the age that we think is ideal, regardless of what God deems best for us.

I was an old geezer when I got married. I had just turned 22.

How Firm a Foundation is probably one of my favorite hymns ever! I'll be checking out this arrangement. I love hymns and love newer contemporary versions as well.

I think that "paper Tim" is more out there than real-life Tim -- not in a contrived way, but probably in keeping with your comfort level (this was confirmed by the email exchange with the CompassionBloggers today).
