Personal: I apologize to the three or four of you who really enjoy A La Carte. I find it difficult to maintain while I am at conferences, so expect more of these week-long gaps in the months to come!
People: Please pray for Paul (who pastors our church) and Julian (who serves as a deacon) as they mourn the loss of Bill Martin, Paul's father and Julian's grandfather.
Interview: J.T. interviews John Ensor.
Language: Peter Leithart has contributed to the discussion about Christians and vulgar language.

I am a follower of Jesus Christ, a husband to Aileen and a father to three young children. I write books and blogs for fun while doing web design and consulting for a living. I worship and serve at

Peter Leithart: One can say "You fool," Jesus tells us, in a way that merits hell; but Jesus Himself calls people "fools" (Matthew 23:19).
Jesus is God. It's "fair" for Him to say and do things that we're not allowed to do.
Tim, I don't think Peter's premise flies!
On a more sober note, my sympathies and condolences to your pastor and to Julian. May the Lord comfort, strengthen and encourage them and their family.
I think there's probably more than three or four who like A La Carte. I don't comment, but I start my day with it. How else would I know what's going on in the world?

yeah - without A La Carte, I wouldn't visit so often.
so now your A La Carte readership stands at 5-6!
A La Carte is my favorite part of your blog (which is not to say that I don't enjoy the rest of it).
Jeri,
First of all, I don't think your premise against him flies. Just because Jesus is God doesn't mean that He can sin at whim because he made the rules. Doing so would violate his nature. If it's fair for Jesus to get away with this stuff, then what else can he get away with? What standard are we left with by which to understand Christ being sinless?
Second of all, that example was one among many. Can you write off the others so easily?
yeah, like everyone else has said, we all love the A LA Carte. I always steal one of your stories each week and send it out to my firends for their enjoyment!
Count me in the crowd that looks for daily A La Carte.
Another a la carte addict!! :) I'm sure many love it.
