Yesterday we went to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and stood before an Avro Lancaster bomber—one of only 2 in the world that remains operational. It was huge, it was imposing and it was strangely moving. Around 7500 of them were built during the war. 2 remain. It’s a near-priceless bit of history.
Songs & Hymns - My buddy Julian has written a couple of blog posts about music. The first is Why Singing Music from Sovereign Grace Is Better than Singing Hymns and the second is Why Singing Hymns Is Better Than Singing Contemporary Worship Songs.
Martin Bashir - I haven’t been able to listen to it yet, but I’ve heard good things about Paul Edwards’ interview with Martin Bashir.
Nuclear Concerns - CNN has a helpful article, complete with animations, to explain what’s going on with those reactors. While we’re on the subject, don’t start popping potassium iodide.
St. Patrick and Human Trafficking - From Canada’s National Post: “Green beer sales mark the globalized celebration of St. Patrick's Day and for many who are only Irish once a year little more is thought of. But it may be time for St. Patrick's Day to become an occasion of global awareness for something more than the taste of Guinness, namely the problem of human trafficking.”
Hell - Randy Alcorn has posted a complete chapter from his book If God Is Good. It teaches about hell in Alcorn’s trademark Q&A style.
Come People of the Risen King - A video from Keith and Kristyn Getty.
Since God has a Son of his own, and such a Son, how wonderful God’s love in adopting us! We needed a Father, but he did not need sons. —Thomas Watson

Audio of the Edward/Bashir interview can be found here: http://networkedblogs.com/fxXwm
The Bashir interview was really, really good. When you’ve got 40 minutes or so to spare, definitely give a listen. Thanks for the links to Julien’s posts on music!
I haven’t been exposed to Sovereign Grace music, but I agree with your buddy Jullian that hymns are better than contemporary worship. Then there is the debate about using only the 150 Psalms from the Old Testament in worship from the “exclusive psalmody” folks. I am researching this idea from Scripture.
*Possible spoiler*
I hope I’m not giving anything away about the Martin Bashir interview—you SHOULD listen to it. But I can’t help but wonder if his days at MSNBC are numbered. I will certainly be following his career.
Just what we need. Guitar solo’s in our hymns. Don’t get me wrong, I love the CD, but the guy rocking out on the electric guitar only took away from the song.
Not sure I agree on the SG better than hymns, but they are on a par for sure. Definitely agree on the hymns vs CS.
As for the Gettys, it’s ABOUT TIME they get a pennywhistler the band. If you’re gonna play irish hymns, that’s must! Love that hymn, by the way.
I think Julian’s point in both posts was less about which is better and the fact that they all must first off point us to the cross/gospel. Both hymns and contemporary songs are useful. Let’s not succumb to the tendency to swing ourselves into the one camp or the other. God used people in the past and He’s still using people today.

They do have one. :)
I attend a Sovereign Grace church, and, while I appreciate their music, I must humbly disagree. It is true that the lyrics are often wonderful, but I find that hymns are just as rich, if not richer, in their focus on the Cross, and also just SOUND better. Sovereign Grace songs all start to sound similar after awhile.
I mean they have a whistler now. I don’t think they did before—just the fiddle.. and when I’ve seen them in concert. You could see him (very briefly) in the video. Looks like he has to battle the electric guitar a little….. : )
I can’t get the chapter from Randy Alcorn’s book ‘If God Is Good.’ It says: Page Not Found
What a great song - was written especially for the All Souls’ Orchestra when the Getty’s were the special guests at their annual Prom Praise ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oC9xGxngFCc - ‘songs of praise meets the last night of the proms’ ) concert in the Royal Albert Hall, in which my wife was playing bassoon :)
