Church: Here is an idea for your Mother’s Day service. “At Grace Point we are giving FREE MANICURES to eight very special moms!”

Environment: The Financial Times exposes the folly that is carbon offsets.

Conference: The 8th and final speaker at Together for the Gospel is…none other than the blogosphere’s own Thabiti Anyabwile.

People: An interesting interview to put the faith of Dog the Bounty Hunter into perspective. “I think that each religion has their basic Christ-ish way to get to the Everlasting God. As far as ‘Jesus only’ kind of people, I as a gentile must believe in Jesus. But I do not condemn, say, the Jewish [people], for not having Jesus.”

Books: Douglas Wilson is beginning a response to Christopher Hitchen’s latest screed entitled “God is Not Great.”

Sadly, the statement by Dog the Bounty Hunter is probably reflective of many people in Evangelicalism in the West today. Teaching in so many congregations has focused solely on the practical—how to deal with your teenage children, how to have a happy marriage, how to feel good about yourself, how to cope, how to do well at work, ad infinitum—that many evangelical Christians have no sense of the truth that Jesus is the way, not just for them but for anyone who would come to God. The good news of Jesus “is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” (Rom 1:16)

Eight winners (four at each worship service) will receive a free manicure DURING our worship time — sounds strange, yes, but they will receive their manicure from professional manicurists right there in the back of our worship center as the service progresses.”

Well, that’s no problem, since it’s not like they have to concentrate too hard on the sermon or open a Bible and read along. Besides, all four lines to the worship songs are easily memorized. It will be the perfect filler during the solo or maybe the chidren’s sermon.

Tim, that article on carbon offsets does not show it is “folly” but rather that some carbon offset companies are lying or not delivering what they say. That’s not surprising as any market has that, but it doesn’t mean that carbon offsets are a bad idea.

DO you have to believe Jesus is the only way to be a Christian? What if you believe he is your Lord and He died for your sins and you follow Him, but see other religions as ways to God would that person go to hell?

Bob Jones said:

I would say that the person who believes that there are other ways to God does not understand the nature of his or her sin nor the Gospel.

So….you would say that person was going to hell? Didn’t answer the question.

Is this person rejecting the Scriptures and claiming any religion can save, or are they merely wondering about the proverbial “man on the island”? It’s like the difference between Catholicism and Arminianism. One is a gospel that does not save because it says one is saved by grace plus works. The other is inconsistent and says that we are saved by grace alone, justified by faith alone, but we have the freewill choice and ability to believe on our own.

Challies can probably answer better than I. :)

I think my question was clear. Let me be more precise. Is Dog a Christian? Does he have eternal life? Can you believe what he said he believes and be saved from the wrath of God?

I think I pretty much answered your question but, on the topic of Dog…

From the general tone of the interview, I would say that his lack of concern for holiness and his man-centered view of faith, coupled with his comment about God giving each countr their own religion, leads me to doubt that he is saved, Then again, he may just be really, really immature. Pray for him. I ho;pe that he runs into some mature, orthodox believers.

We cannot fully or finally determine if a person is a Christian. That is up to God. I would say, though, that at the very least we would have cause to be concerned about his faith as he clearly shows a serious misunderstanding of the gospel. We are not saved by our perfect theology (thankfully!) but a belief that is as unbiblical as this one would make us wonder whether Dog really understands or believes what the Bible teaches about sin and salvation.
