Salaries are getting out of control. “Boosted by his new deal with the New York Yankees, A-Rod tops the major league baseball salary list at $28 million, according to a study of contract terms by The Associated Press. The 33 players on the Marlins’ opening-day roster and disabled list total $21.8 million.”

While it may be true that baseball salaries are out of hand (though I don’t think so, being a free market guy), I don’t think that point can be made by comparing A-Rod’s salary to the Marlins’ salaries. A-Rod’s is a huge salary, and the Marlins’ are a bunch of (relatively) small salaries. All of them are still baseball salaries though.
If one A-Rod equals thirty-some Marlins, I think the best you can draw from it is that some baseball players’ salaries are really high compared to other baseball players’ salaries.
I saw the title, “The Problem with Baseball” and thought, “Finally, somebody agrees with me.”
But then I saw the piece.
C’mon! We all know the REAL problem with baseball …
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter.
Keep in mind the Marlins have won a World Series since the Yankees have.
