Pornography: The Difference Being a Parent Makes - Al Moher: Steve Jobs is a businessman of unquestioned ability, a technological wizard, and one of the greatest orchestrators of ‘cool’ in world history. Nevertheless, he has not been known as a critic of pornography … until now.
Moishe Rosen, 1932 - 2010 - Ray Ortlund writes about Moishe Rosen, founder of Jews for Jesus, who went to be with the Lord last week. The New York Times writes about him as well.
Can an Individual Interpret Scripture? - Mounce answers this question. “2 Pet 1:20-21 are important verses for our doctrine of Scripture, and so it should come as no surprise that there are some differences of opinion on the meaning of the passage.”
Nike has taken the wraps off their big World Cup advertisement. I find it very interesting from this perspective: could an “outsider” look at this ad and think it’s anything but idolatry? Are we not making these men into gods? It is a brilliant ad, not doubt, but seems to highlight the way we idolize athletes and athletics today.

Steve Jobs and Porn - I first read this on Justin Taylor’s site but as he posted a little later apparently it as a satire . Justin Taylor posted this new info , “That earlier post (about all Mac browsers blocking porn, starting this summer) was satire, from a fake Steve Jobs twitter account. Mea culpa.” So Apple will still get all the porn available on the net it seems .
The Apple story should have been suspect on the face of it. How does a device “block p%rn?” Is it able to morally evaluate the content of an image?
P%rn is evil, awful, I want it to go away tomorrow, and I want it to be as hard for anyone to get as possible. That said, I no more want my electronic devices to be incapable of receiving p%rn than I want my car to be incapable of driving to an adult bookstore. Rendering a car incapable of going to certain spots necessarily disables it from other useful functions, and until some technological miracle that I suspect is theoretically impossible occurs, the same thing is true with disabling devices from receiving “bad” material (in quotes not to question the badness of p%rn, but because in many areas badness is more subjective.)
Al needs to merely go to the Itune store, type in “girls” or “porn” and you can download at least 50 or more apps. I just had a co-worker show me on his Iphone. So I am not sure where this is coming from about Steve Jobs.
The Nike football ad, was well nothing new. What I liked was the previous youtube with football cf rugby. A classic and closer to reality.
Fred,
Respectfully, Mr. Jobs was talking only about the “Apps Store” found through iTunes, not anything else. “Apps” are down-loadable programs that run on the iTouch, iPod, and iPhone. There are thousands of them available on iTunes.
My 14 year old son downloads these programs (most are free) all the time and still each has to be approved by his parents.
This (Apple’s no porn “Apps” policy) is a small victory for those who value our children’s digital welfare. I can however, see the ACLU on the horizon…

Is sports worship as big in Canada as it is in America? I’m curious. That ad perfectly captured how Americans feel about athletics.
The article does not make that distinction and is thus unclear. Perhaps that may be about the App store specifically, but Itunes is Apple’s creation. If he is serious about eliminating porn, those apps should be removed.
