8 Writing Tips from C.S. Lewis - Here is a good list of writing tips from C.S. Lewis (some of which have been slightly modernized). “In 1959 an American schoolgirl wrote to C. S. Lewis asking him for advice on the craft of writing. He sent her a list of eight rules, and I add my own editorial comments to each of them.” (HT:TW)

Thanks for the ‘heads up’ on the Christian writing website, I’ve never come across this before and it’s a good resource…

The article on the 8 rules of writing is very good, although I’m slightly put off by the author suggesting his reader would not know what circumlocution means.

The real gem here, though, in my opinion, is the movie on the secret powers of time! I’ll be passing that on.

Your link to “Rejection by Silent Majority” appears to be broken.

The video on Time is very interesting. But I think the conclusions he draws from the data are not from a Christian worldview, namely that:

1. At the end of the video, he suggests many of our problems will go away once we realize people view time differently. It all comes down to time and how we view it. Interesting concept, but ultimately falls short of the truth.

2. Since children are rewiring their brains with video games and porn, we should change the way we educate kids instead of change the way kids spend their time. In other words, the speaker is saying it’s easier to change the billion dollar education system than to change the way parents discipline their kids.

Michael - just as an FYI, the video on Time in no way is a Christian video. It is purely secular, yet drives home some key observations.

Never thought I’d see a Zimbardo video on challies.com. I want to know if I can hire the person who is doing the illustrations during the lecture — the pictures are such good representations of what is being said!

Praying for Randy, Sono, and Joni. Romans 8:18 says that our sufferings are not worthly to be compared with what is coming!

I like the video on time also. Found one on motivation interesting as well.

I don’t understand the window breaking picture. What is happening there? It looks like a cop in riot gear maybe? What is he throwing through the window? WHY is he throwing something through the window?

The picture is showing one of the “black bloc” protesters who descended upon Toronto for the G8/20 meetings this weekend. The riot squad doesn’t usually roll with BMX helmets and backpacks.

Mike,

Good explanation about the Tim Hortons pic.

What struck me immediately was…

Considering how this so-called protester is dressed it’s obvious that a peaceful protest was planned from the beginning… ;—)

FWIW, the header is reading 4/29 instead of 6/29.

The chair thrower is obviously an American, who believed the nostalgic hype of his Canadian friends when they said that Tim Horton’s actually has good food. Although I disagree with his method, I sympathize with his disappointment.
