Practical Ideas for Family Worship - Tim Smith offers a few ideas for times of family worship.
The First Thing Young Women Do in the Morning - “Young women are becoming more and more dependent on social media and checking on their social networks, according to a new study released earlier today by Oxygen Media and Lightspeed Research. In fact, as many as one-third of women aged 18-34 check Facebook when they first wake up, even before they get to the bathroom.”
Technism - John Dyer, who is also writing a book on technology and one that will probably be better than mine, shows how the World Cup offers an example of technism. Technism is “the unending pursuit of more and more complex technologies designed to make human life better, But when those devices cause problems, the solution is always additional technologies that solve the problems caused by the previous technology, and then even more technology to deal with the problems of that technology, and so on.”
With God on Our Side - Alex Chediak links to a documentary that looks rather interesting.

Went to see the third Twilight Saga movie with a high school girl. It was incredible to her that we stopped texting to save $30 a month. She quipped, “That’s all I do—text!” She will probably remember for a long time that I took her to a movie and for ice cream and that I edit her novel. Will she remember any text or tweet?
Technism blog of John Dyer is interesting. However, Tim, your book will be better. Who cares anyway, which book is better?! I guess you might because you evaluate books here. Anyway, a book is for God’s glory whatever the outcome in sales or recognition.
You really get it in your “Don’t Take Your iPod to Church” related post above. I watch a young man in our church regularly check his iPhone the first thing when Sunday worship is done and the pastor says “you are free to have fellowship one with another and please greet our guests.” Young man, we are your “in the flesh” fellowship!
Carol,
You make it sound like there is no middle ground. I’ve taken people to movies, bought them ice cream, edited their work AND text them frequently and they remember it for a long time.
Is there an extreme tech-friendly group of people who are so good online and via text that they forget how to function in person? Perhaps … but I sure don’t know very many people like that.
On the contrary, I’d make the claim that with social media and texting, I have some more intimate connections with people (in person!!) than I would otherwise.
It’s beginning to be a bit disconcerting to me that every week Tim is linking to a different article decrying the evils of technology. I mean, obviously some of that has to be taken with a grain of salt (I saw his TWEET on my FACEBOOK, which linked to his BLOG, which linked to an ONLINE article, talking about how technology is hurting us…), but it is becoming a bit frustrating to just keep reading the same article penned by a different author on a different website every week.

I don’t necessarily endorse the complete content of any one of those articles. But since I’m writing a book about these things, that’s what I’m reading and, therefore, that’s what is ending up in A La Carte. Once my book is finished I’ll move on to something else, I’m sure! :)
Wow. I’m actually sitting here in my pajamas, having just gotten on to Facebook, when I turned to A La Carte.
And I’m in the demographic’s zone.
Creepy.
“Practical ideas for family worship” hhhmmmm.
