What’s a Ligonier? - Chris Larson explains what a Ligonier is and why it was chosen as the name for the ministry.
The Sharpie Pencil - I need one of these.
The First Day of School - Someone sent me this article, one I can identify with. This year our youngest is going to be heading off to school along with her older brother and sister!
How Do I Know God Exists? - D.A. Carson does a great job of answering that question:
The End of Men - Here is a report from the Atlantic. “Earlier this year, women became the majority of the workforce for the first time in U.S. history. Most managers are now women too. And for every two men who get a college degree this year, three women will do the same. For years, women's progress has been cast as a struggle for equality. But what if equality isn't the end point? What if modern, postindustrial society is simply better suited to women? A report on the unprecedented role reversal now under way--and its vast cultural consequences”

I am a follower of Jesus Christ, a husband to Aileen and a father to three young children. I worship and serve as a pastor at

Dr. Albert Mohler has an excellent commentary and analysis on the ‘End of Men” article:http://www.albertmohler.com/2010/06/22/the-end-of-men-a-hard-look-at-the…
Mr. Challies,
You and I would most assuredly desire one of these seemingly too good to be true sharpy pens…but come on my brother, need? I’m sure we’d do fine with a pencil and lead!;)

Mr. Joseph,
You and I would most assuredly desire one of these seemingly too good to be true pencils and leads…but come on my brother, need? I’m sure we’d do fine with a tablet and chisel!;)

I, too, desire one of the new Sharpie liquid pencils. Could this be the answer to my ongoing quest for the perfect pencil? Thanks for the tip, Tim (no pun intended). It will be interesting to try it out!
On The End of Men-An important read, if only to better understand how our society is at its lowest depth. Although I’m a firm believer in men and women being of equal dignity and equal destiny, I am also one who believes in our inherent distinction as male and female according to godly order and design where He is most glorified.
At the risk of sounding simplistic, what we are observing across the globe is the fulfillment of Malachi 4, whereas God’s Word promises that he would strike the land with a curse if the hearts of the fathers were not turned toward their children. The results of sin are staggering.
The so-called progress of the rapid rise of women becoming the ruling class in society is actually a picture of gross wickedness wearing fine perfume and walking around in pumps. I pray that men of all ages will become angered enough over this troubling landscape to repent and turn back to the living God. Only He can heal the damage.
It is sobering to recall that Bible record shows that He sometimes skips a generation to accomplish His purposes.
1. Quote from the “the End of Men” article, “And because geopolitics and global culture are, ultimately, Darwinian, other societies either follow suit or end up marginalized.”
2. Everyone rails against the thought of patriarchy, but is matriarchy any better?
3. There are more women in the workplace not necessarily because women excel men, but because we have created a society where it’s perfectly fine for men to sit at home and play the Wii all day in their underwear while we tell women “go to school, get a career, wait awhile to marry and have kids.”
4. In our schools, we no longer teach boys to be men. Girls excel early at mental tasks so we build school curriculum around them. By the time boys get out of school most are fully feminized and ready for the “real world.” Parents don’t necessarily realize this until it’s too late (although many like James Dobson have been preaching this for years.)
5. We don’t allow men to fail anymore. If a family needs money, the wife is told to go to work, while the man takes his time looking for a job. We call statements like this from Nancy Leigh DeMoss legalistic, when they are simply an exposition of Proverbs.
“At times, I have asked women who are frustrated by the inactivity of their husbands, ‘What would happen if you didnt jump in to handle the situation?’ You think you have to go to work because he wont get a job? If he gets hungry, he will probably work! You feel you have to take charge of the finances because he is irresponsible with money? He may go bankrupt. But that may be exactly what it takes for God to get his attention and change his character. You must be willing to let him fail believing that ultimately, your security is not in your husband but in a sovereign God who is not going to fail you.”
While feminist will be doing a victory lap over the rise of women in the workplace at the expense of men, they are actually merely fiddling while Rome burns.
They don’t see how this is the beginning of the end for our western society.
While men have definitely abdicated their responsibilities, they have been encouraged by the values of our post-Christian, entertainment-driven culture.
And don’t hold your breath for programs to appear on the educational landscape to help men succeed and get back into college now that they are the true educational minority. Won’t happen. Those on the Left are too busy celebrating and toasting each other to realize what a complicated web they have woven.
The bottom line: we’re screwed but nobody will realize it until it’s too late.
Deb,I read Dr. Mohler’s article, The End of Men?—A Hard Look at the Future. I thought it was very good, as to be expected from a man of his caliber. Thank you for sharing the link.
But to be honest, I was disappointed that he did not end his commentary by at least offering his readership some Biblical hope.
I certainly give him more credit than to think he doesn’t believe that there is a Biblical remedy for our societal malady, but with the opportunity such as he has been given to reach a wide audience, he left the stage and shut off all the lights before people had a chance to see that there was a way out.
I still have to read that End of Men article. But as soon as I saw that Sharpie pencil, the nerd in me rose UP!!! LOL.
It’s hard to argue women are the new “ruling class” and we’re now in a matriarchy when, you know, men still occupy the vast majority of positions of power.
Sure, women get more college degrees than men. They have careers. Then they abandon or short-circuit those careers in favor of other pursuits. Like kids and family.
25 out of the Fortune 1000 companies have a CEO that’s a woman. That’s 2.5%.
Wiki says as of 2008 there were 75 women in the U.S. House. that’s 17.2%.
There are 17 women in the U.S. Senate, which is 17%.
Dale writes: “While feminist will be doing a victory lap over the rise of women in the workplace….[clip]…While men have definitely abdicated their responsibilities…”
Women aren’t in the work place because men abdicated their responsibilities (unless you think those responsibilities include “keeping women out of the work place”); women are there there because they want to be.
I like Don Carson’s reflection on the question “How do I know God exists?”. Implicit in it, I think, is also a rebuke of a combative attitude of many conservative Christians today in terms of apologetic arguing. One who has inner certainty of faith and peace which comes with it, not only does not feel this need in anything like combative way, but also knows that God moves gently in human souls who open up for him. Great video, with which conservative and liberal protestants, and many other Christians I believe, may find much agreement.
