A La Carte (8/6)

Monday August 6, 2007It’s Worse to Walk Than Drive
A leading environmentalist has figured out that walking does more than driving to cause global warming. It turns out there is more damage done by growing the food you need to make that walk than in the pollutants from your car.
The Atheist Who Thought He Was God
Scott Adams, who writes the comic strip Dilbert, has had some interesting posts lately dealing with atheism.
The Duggars Welcome #17
The Duggar family of Arkansas (you’ve seen them on several TV specials) just welcomed their 17th child into the world. And they’re not done yet.
Discernment: Prerequisite for Spiritual Growth
Yesterday Lydia posted a quote from my book. She can do that because she is my editor and just happens to be editing it at the moment…
Wenger Giant Swiss Army Knife
This is the ultimate Swiss Army Knife. “As awesome as it is ridiculous, this incredible triumph of engineering is packed with 85 fully functional implements and is said to have over 100 functions. Why? Well, why not?”

First off, I like the new comment help thingys on the right. Nice use of that empty space.

My thought on the Duggars: one more kid, and their kids can field two complete baseball teams. Now THAT’S pretty sweet. (Actually, counting Mom out, who is probably needed to patch up scratches, they could field two complete teams once the youngest kids become abulatory.)

That article on global warming is incredibly selective on the “facts” it presents and comes to some ridiculous conclusions! I’d rather see someone deny the existence of global warming than spout nonsensical, counter intuitive stuff like that!

The Scott Adams thing is a little surprising—I recall a Dilbert collection with Adam’s notes and one of the notes about a strip said something like “If there’s a hell, I’m definitely going to be there”. I remember how terrible that sounded and it has always given me a bad impression, but this article kind of confuses things a little more. Is Adams saying that he thinks Christians have a very defensible position on the doctrine of God?

I was trying to figure out whether that Swiss Army knife includes the obligatory GPS and MP3 player!

By the way, I agree with B. Minich that the comment widget is nice. I couldn’t get the comment function to work in Apple’s Safari, though; I’m using Firefox instead.

What was depressing about the Scott Adam’s post is that the comments thread is OVERWHELMINGLY atheist. I didn’t have time to read everything, but did some searches and I think there might have only been a few comments on there by Theists (and I’m not even talking about Christian Theists. I think there was one of those)
