This wasn’t quite how I had imagined my homecoming from the Desiring God conference. In retrospect, I guess ordering the shepherd’s pie at Brit’s in downtown Minneapolis was where I went wrong. By the time I reached Milwakuee on the first leg of my trip home I was feeling a bit “off.” By the time we reached the Toronto airport, I figured I was in trouble. By the time I got back to my home I was violently ill, about as sick as I’ve ever been, I think. It was to the point where my wife was about ready to send me off to the hospital. I was up, quite literally, all night, and am just now able to even think about cracking open the computer. Thankfully, as food poisoning seems to go, this was reasonably short-lived, though I’m guessing it’s going to take me another day or so to get back on my feet (and catch up with the sleep I lost last night). But that was, and to some extent still is, just an awful bout with food poisoning.
I was hoping to post some reflections on the conference today, but that is likely going to have to wait until tomorrow. The same is true of tidying up John Piper’s sermon from yesterday. And now I’m heading back to a more horizontal position to try to get a bit of shut-eye.

Hey Tim - sorry you’re feeling under the weather! I pray for a rapid recovery.
I wanted to say thank you for your work in liveblogging the dg conf. It’ll be so nice to have your notes to look over for what slipped through the cracks in my own note-taking. :) Oh, wasn’t it marvelous? I’m still reeling…
Also, it was great to meet you at the conference. I’m sure you met a few hundred people over the course of the weekend, but if it helps to put the words with the face, I met you after Pastor John spoke…I was the “local” with the volunteer nametag… :)
Anyway, I look forward to your reflections and thoughts on the conference!
For His Supremacy,
Jennifer

Food poisoning is really icky. Take the day off to rest up, and here’s praying that by tomorrow, you’re recovered.

And I guess this is my punishment for not having greater faith in my pastor!

Tim,
Rest up, rejuvenate and recharge! You deserve it.
Bye the way. If I’m not mistaken, didn’t C.H. Spurgeon write his Treasury of David while laid up in bed? You got any plans to help pass the time? ;)

Reason #456 I don’t go to Brit’s pub. How much did that pie cost you anyway: $34?
Nice to see you again, Tim. I hope you post the pic I took of you. :)

I went to the conference too and I got food poisoning as well! I think it was something I ate at the Minneapolis airport. Hope you get better.

I’ve never had any desire to try shepherd’s pie - and now I have even less desire to do so. Should have stuck with the chicken pot pie. If memory serves, I believe you called that a “real man’s meal”.
I hope you’re feeling better real soon.

Brit’s pub is normally a nice place, and with a nice Scotch menu if I recall correctly. Sorry you got food poisoning.
RE: Driscoll and the Incarnation—it was encouraging to see Mark’s comments clarifying his position in the recently closed DG06 Session 4 comment thread.
Much appreciated and I’m hopeful this allows some of the alarm to die down.

BTW, Tim, I love shepherd’s pie…if you ever come out to Phoenix, I’ll gladly take you to a local Irish pub here where it’s exceptional.

Food Poisoning, not so much fun, had a run in with that earlier this year. It usually takes 24 hours to run its course and then a day or two to get your energy back. Don’t rush back into things, it can only make you sicker or sap your energy more.
Anyhow, I’ve come to enjoy your blog since I began reading it a few months ago. Keep up the good work and thanks for your thoughtfulness in your posting.

I flew Midwest Airlines Milw. to Mpls and back. Likely we were on the same flight to and from the DG conf. I don’t know what you look like, but I did see a guy that looked a little green. Sorry I didn’t get to introduce myself. Then again, I’m glad I was able to stay clear sense food poisning is highly contagious. Get well! Looking forward to your thoughts on the Conference.

It took us 18 hours to drive back to Hamilton, Ontario from the conference. It’ll take us a while to process all that was said in the sessions. They were gold! I got to talk to Piper one on one about the seminary I go to here in Canada. He was very encouraging.
Sorry about your food poisoning - an earlier post said it’s a ‘bummer’. I hope the pun was unintentional!

It’s possible that you picked up the horrid G/I bug that has been going around this place. It could be food poisoning too, though. I just wanted to give old Brit’s the benefit of the doubt. Take it easy!

No no. It’s because you ate at the English place that you got sick. A couple more blocks down Nicollet is The Local, and the Irish would have been very kind to you - your person and bowels both.
Thanks for your great work this weekend.

Tim,
That’s weird, I got food poisoning after eating at brit’s pub on saturday night. All I had was a cheese burger. It sounds like you had it alot worse than me though. I wonder if anyone else out there got sick after brit’s?
Hope you feel better,
Cheers,
Rick

Hey Tim,
Sorry to hear that you were so sick after the Shepherd’s Pie. I guess you should have come with us to the the Somalian restaurant for the roast goat. Thanks for all you do in helping us keep up with things. Hope you are feeling much better soon.

You sure you weren’t there with the Emergent crowd…oh nevermind and just get well so we can all steal…err…read your insights from the DGM Conference!

I understand how you feel! I went through that on our anniversary a couple years ago. Ate barbecue at a famous spot in TN - my husband and I both had the same thing, but I got sick. Spent 2 days in the Motel bed - deathly sick! Praying that you get better soon, and strength is renewed quickly.

Tim,
Had almost the same experience at Brit’s. Brutal food, slow service, and someone had been ill out on the sidewalk patio.
Great conference though.

I’ve never heard of “Shepherd’s Pie” so I don’t know what’s in it. I guess I’ll Google and check it out. I wish we lived closer to each other because I just made a big pot of Chicken and Rice soup and if I do say so myself, it would get you up and going again (in a good way of course).
Get well soon…

sounds like someone should contact this Brit’s place and let them know that several people got sick after the conference there!
hope all are better now!
