American Idolatry

Thanks to Dave for sending along a link which ties in nicely to my post from last week entitled I Love What I Hate.

Weekly DV presents a short but hilarious mockumentary studying Americans and their gods.

I don’t think that the secular crowd is going to judge us because we watch American Idol— I doubt that hurts our testimony much at all.

This is the first site that I have been able to find that says anything legitimately wrong w/ AI. However, I think that we are missing a major point. The world may not be judging Christian for fornicating with their false god, American Idol, but God certainly is. It seems that we have selective amnesia when remember scriptural references of God’s hatred toward idolatry and idol worship.

It is like we just etched out of our minds that the show is called “American Idol.” That, in my opinion, is not by chance, but by deliberate choice of the producers. They understand, I think better than we Christians, that the word ‘idol’, means FALSE GOD. And yet Christians support this show not just by viewing but also participating. Lucifer was, before the fall, the minister of music, who ushered in the praise (music) of God, he exalted himself above God because of his talent. This show is a cleverly packaged self-worship show that illustrates our true desire to ‘be a gods.’ Think about it.
