"The Discipline of Spiritual Discernment is a truly important work-one that should be required reading not only for church leaders, but for all sober-minded laypeople as well."

John MacArthur (From the Foreword)

"If you were more discerning you’d probably buy this book. If you do read this book, you will be! This book on discernment is simple, clear, well-written and well-illustrated...

Codex

Codex HostAs you may have noticed, I am now offering a small amount of advertising space on this site. It may or may not be coincidence that I began offering advertising at the same time as I bought my first house and began facing mortgage payments for the first time. I am handling all advertising requests personally and attempting to ensure that I only run advertising that might benefit the readers of this site. I have no plans to run BlogAds, Google AdWords or anything of that nature. These are not pay-per-click ads, but you can still support this site by clicking through and reading about whatever product is being offered. If you are interested in running advertising on this site, please feel free to contact me.

This week’s sponsor is Codex Hosting. Kevin, the owner of the company, has become a friend of mine. He is one of the few readers of this site whom I have met personally (he convinced me to drive all the way to Niagara-on-the-Lake to meet him!). He is positioning Codex Hosting as a company that will provide all the space, bandwidth and features needed for a wide variety of web sites, but in particular as a company that will provide great support. For those familiar with budget web hosting, I’m sure you are familiar with companies that oversell their products and underdeliver support! Kevin hopes to correct this trend, offering “more disk space and bandwidth than you need” (feel free to hold him to that!) and “most importantly, we offer friendly, personal service.”

Codex is offering a 20% discount to anyone who signs up for the service through my site. If you are in the market for hosting for a personal site, blog, church site, etc, why not give Codex a try. By doing so you’d support both Kevin and myself. What more could you want?

And now, back to our regularly-scheduled programming.

Just curious as to what you would recommend for someone who is not an html guru and would like to blog? Codex does not assist with creation of the Blog and Content does it? What blog site would you recommend to a newbie who needs a lot of help in creating an attractive and yet inexpensive blog site?

Wayne,

Codex will get you setup with Wordpress, a package that makes it easy to blog. As for templates, there are plenty of good, free Wordpress templates available on the Net if you hunt around a little bit.

Alternatively, I’d be happy to install Movabletype for you (free of charge), another blogging package that is in some ways a little bit easier than Wordpress.

Tim,

That would be great if you could do it. But where should I begin? Should I sign up for Blogger or what free blogging site could I set up my initial blog and then learn some html or something to get me going. I actually had a blog in the past but I had another person set it up for me and I sent them some books from their wish list. Once it was set up I just copied the HTML from the initial posts etc and learned how to do it from there. If you would be willing to do the same I would either donate to this site or send you some books from a wish list, etc. I want to have a blog for both my wife and I and we were thinking of “merewhit” as the title. Something with merewhit in the URL. Let me know if this makes sense and you can help? Thank You!
