Sunday Ramblings

This has been a busy weekend - and it’s only Sunday morning. Early on Sunday morning at that. By the time you read this we’re in the car on the way back to Atlanta. So if you’re somewhere on the I-75 between Atlanta and Detroit and you see a silver Ford Windstar with Ontario plates, wave at me!

Only four more sleeps until football season begins.

Now that Labour Day is upon us and the school year is here, Kristin, our boarder will be moving back in. This is the fifth year she will be with us. Last year she became a believer and it was thrilling to see her begin to learn about and grow in the Lord. We’re looking forward to seeing her again after a long summer. So if you start to see the name Kristin popping up around here, that’s who I’m referring to. Now all we need to do is find her a nice Christian gentleman…

I received a fascinating book the other day from James Sundquist. It’s a lengthy expose of the Purpose Driven movement that weighs in at almost 300 pages. I am hoping to read and review it over the next couple of weeks since it will be available to purchase as soon as the end of this month. A brief skim has pulled up “the usual arguments” as well as a host of new information. After a quick run-through I am quite impressed and look forward to getting into the meat of it!

Everytime I go to my parent’s house I come away with a stack of books I convince them to let me borrow. Among the ones I’ve grabbed this time is “True Spirituality” by Francis Schaeffer. To my shame I have never read a book by him. Through the first couple of chapters I’m quite enjoying this one. My mother tells me that this is the book that led my folks out of the Charismatic Movement they were part of when they first became Christians. They later spent over a year at L’Abri learning solid, Presbyterian theology. I suspect my theology, which has been formed to a great extent through learning from my parents as a young ‘un, shares much with that of Schaeffer who influenced my parents so much.

And now it’s about time for me to get the car packed and begin the long trek north. As I wrote last time, if you are reading this on Sunday there’s a pretty good possibility that we are in the car driving right now. A quick prayer for our safety (and for well-behaved kiddies) would be much appreciated.

Enjoy your Lord’s Day!
