The Basics Conference
I am off to Cleveland in about fifteen minutes. I’ll be attending The Basics Conference which is held at Parkside Church (which is, of course, pastored by Alistair Begg). Cleveland is somewhere around five hours away by car so I decided to drive rather than fly. I will be there until the conference wraps up Wednesday at around noon.
If you could remember me in prayer, I’d be grateful. Not only would do I ask for traveling mercies, but I’m also leading a seminar (twice) and, since this is one of my first forays into speaking at one of these seminars, would ask that you seek God’s blessing on my behalf. I’m not a natural public speaker so this is definitely a bit of a stretch for me. I know the subject matter and know what I want to say, but really do want to say it in a way that is most helpful.
Check in later this afternoon or evening and I’ll begin to provide updates.

What an honor to actually speak at Alistair Begg’s church! I saw him here at East Valley Bible Church and God uses him in a mighty way. I’m sure five hours gives you plenty of time to practice. Praying for travel mercies.

Hey Tim, Sorry to use this space to air this comment. But it’s in response to your “A la carte” item on Josh Sowins Fire and Knowledge blog. You state that he does a good job of mirroring your opinion on the Ray Comfort/Atheist debate that took place this weekend. Please let me know what you think of my comments.
First of all, the banana thing: This isn’t a serious argument from Ray, it’s more or less a tonque-in-cheek poke at atheists. If you knew Ray’s sense of humor, you’d understand.
Secondly, atheists typically argue that you cannot prove God with the bible or personal testimony because it is subjective and circular. All Ray is doing is saying, “All right, you want some kind of empirical truth, here it is.” Then he goes on to point out the incredible, unarguable evidence of a highly structured universe. He also points out the lack of evolutionary evidence which I’m sure you agree with. Again, if you are familiar with Ray at all, you know that this is really all about getting as many people, viewers, media, etc. to have their eyes on the debate for one reason only. To preach the gospel to them. That’s it! Ray is aware as I’m sure you are that the power to convert is in the gospel alone. THAT’S biblical.

What a blessing, Tim! This is my husband’s third time at the annual Basics conference. Before, I always felt a little left behind in the dark until he returned while I prayed for him and for the others attending, including Pastor Alistair (glory to our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ for restoring Alistair’s health and strength) & the guest speakers. Now that you are keeping us apprised, I no longer feel like a mushroom! Also, I will be able to pray more specifically for everyone at the conference as your entries inform us. Effectual fervent prayer avails much! (James 5:16) Thanking God for you, Patty Knox
