Podcast #1 (Guest: Mark Dever)

PodcastI’ve gone and done it. This is my very first podcast. For those who don’t know, a podcast is really just an audio file that can be listened to either through a normal media player or through a kind of subscription. Both options are available to you. If you don’t know about podcasting and don’t want to, simply follow the instructions below to listen to it the old fashioned way.

I was thrilled to have Dr. Mark Dever join me on this podcast and allow me to interview him barrage him with questions. I’ve got a lot to learn about podcasting and about interviewing, but I gave it the ol’ college try. There were a couple of problems with the audio quality, but I hope I’ve learned enough to remedy them next time. In the future I’ll likely talk more and such, but for this first one I was content mostly to listen to Dr. Dever.

The podcast is not yet available in the iTunes podcast directory, so until that happens, here is how you can listen to it:

To Subscribe To The Podcast

If you are using iTunes or another media player capable of playing podcasts, you may want the RSS feed address:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/challies/podcast

For iTunes, highlight that address and select “Copy.” Then open iTunes, select “Advanced” from the main menu and then “Subscribe to Podcast.” Paste the address into that box and click “OK.” iTunes will then download the podcast and play it for you. It will also notify you when a new podcast becomes available.

To Simply Listen To The Audio

I’d prefer that, if you wish to listen to just this audio, rather than listening to it in your browser, you save the file to your computer and listen to it in your audio player. To do that, simply right-click on this link and select “Save Link As” in Firefox or “Save Target As” in Internet Explorer. Simply let the file download to your computer and then open it in your favorite media player (iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc).

Enjoy!

(By the way, that was Mark Dever’s phone ringing, not mine!)

Tim,

You’re going to have to grab some new tunes when you interview Elisabeth Elliot.

Downloading audio is brutal for someone on dialup (sniff, sniff). But it’s worth it I suppose, just to hear your chat with Mark Dever.

At least it’s not TOO large of a file for us dialup dinosaurs.

Interesting interview. Mr. Dever sounded a bit “Ho Hum” to me but you carried it along well.

Great work, Tim! I little shaky at the beginning, especially with the phone, but you sounded like you got more comfortable as the interview progressed. Loved Dever’s little jab at Mahaney - “Pope CJ the first.”

Excellent!

Are you going to have some kind of link on your home page for easy access to these podcasts? If not, what will be the easiest way in the future to locate them?

Good job, Tim.

“little shaky at the beginning, especially with the phone, but you sounded like you got more comfortable as the interview progressed.”

You should have heard the raw version if you think this was shaky! Like I said, I’ve got a lot to learn! :)

“Are you going to have some kind of link on your home page for easy access to these podcasts?”

I think so, yes. Once I have a few I’ll likely use the center column of the header for this. For now, just go to the Categories and then select Podcasts.

Tim

Good stuff. It’s great as a young guy to listen to Dr.Dever-I appreciate his honesty and down to earthedness(is that a word?).

I think the call to ministry for alot of us young guys is somewhat mysterious and subjective so the sorting out of it brings clarification. As matter of fact as he was about his call to ministry suggests that it was less mystical and more practical-which is encouraging. The best part was just hearing you ask the questions that we would want to ask.

Love that intro music-what song is that(the second one-ha ha)?

Great job, Tim. That really was so down to earth and informative-loved it.

Now all that’s left for you is to record your first cd.

Finally, the tables have turned! I have listened to most of the 9marks interviews and always have wanted to hear somebody “fire a barrage of questions” at Mark so that we can learn a little more about him.

Thanks, Tim.

Tim great work. What I want to know is where did you get the graphic of the rss feed with the headphones. That is great! Did you make that yourself? If so major techy cudos.

I found it on Google’s image search. I found it on enough sites that I figured it must be public domain. Or I hope so anyways!

Tim, I know I’m late with this, since I never come here (rss subscriber) but wanted to know if you also asked Dev for any advice on your DoD project?

Happy 1st!.

Tim: I thought it was odd that Pastor Dever didn’t seem to know anything about Ray Comfort, since he’s been interviewed on the Way of the Master Radio at least twice. Maybe he wasn’t informed of the other aspects of this ministry?

Tim,

Great job! Very informative interview. I found it interesting, the way he sort of downplayed T4G. I’m not sure if he realizes what a rallying point it is for those of us wanting to preserve the essentials, yet strive to fulfill the biblical mandate for unity and love. But I understand his point about conferences, that it’s the normal means of grace, not these special, charged-up events, which promote our growth as Christians.

Looking forward to more interviews in the near future!
