Dominican Republic - Our Travel Day

| 15 Comments | No TrackBacks
Tomorrow at 5:30 I am saying goodbye to my mother and my sisters and taking a bus to the airport. Here are a list of things I'm going to miss:

  • My family (my dad not included since he'll be with me)
  • My teachers
  • My friends
  • My friends at church
  • My house
  • My bed
  • My Wii
I am going to miss all of these things very much (except for the Wii). One thing I won't miss is my paper route. Here are some things I'm grateful for:

  • I did not have to leave before my sister's birthday or before Halloween
  • I am sure that I'll be perfectly safe in Dominican Republic
So those are the things I'm grateful for.

Today we went to a couple of stores and bought some things for our trip. We got books and activity books for the plane, we got stickers and lollipops to give to children in the Dominican Republic, and we got some medicine and sunscreen to use there.

We have to get up by 5 o'clock tomorrow morning, so I will need to go to bed early tonight. I'll write on my blog again when I'm in the Dominican Republic. Bye!

Tim, I am already loving hearing your perspective on this trip and you haven't even left yet! I look forward to seeing the Dominican Republic through your eyes. My first sponsored child is from the D.R. -- he's 17 now but was only 7 when I got him -- so I'm really looking forward to "seeing" his country.

Hey there,

Our family is following your trip and will be praying for you! Do they set the clocks back in your area? That ought to help out some with having to get up early.

Warmly,
The Hankins Family

Tim - I was directed to your blog by a friend. It is a wonderful thing what you are doing - what an opportunity and a blessing. I will be printing off your posts and reading them to my class (10 - 12 yr olds) as our school blocks all blog sites. Take care.

Thank you for blogging Nick. We will look forward to reading about your trip. My children are still in bed this morning. When they wake up I will tell them about your site. They will be excited to learn how God is working through Compassion International. We have two very good friends who were adopted from Haiti. We always thought that the Dominican Republic was fairly "well off". So . . . we will be learning from you! As part of their homeschool studies I will have my children ask you questions.
Enjoy your trip, and thanks again. Mrs. Flynn

Hey Nick,

thanks for blogging about this! Praying for you all from missouri! I can't wait to hear your stories.

Hi, NIck!
I'm following the link from the Compassion Bloggers page and wanted to let you know that I'll be following to hear your take on the DR. You are the age of the kids I teach and I hope I can share your words with them. Take care - keep the camera going!

Hi Nick,
My name is Isabel and I will be reading your blogs this week. My name is Isabel and I am nine years old. MY dad is on your trip. His name is Steve and he is tall and sweet (most of the time). He works for Compassion. I am glad you got to go to the D.R. We have a sponsored child in the D.R. Her name is Marielba. If you meet her say hi.
