R.C. Sproul Jr on Separation

I found a link to a great little article on Dead Man Blogging. The article is written by R.C. Sproul Jr and deals with being set apart.
I dont know what shows are on TV, and I dont know what songs are on the radio. I couldnt name enough current NBA players to fill a single teams roster. Im not even sure if they still play the game in college.
So what have I lost? One of the ways we seek to spiritualize our worldliness is to see it as a tool for evangelism. That is, if Im hip to the lyrics of the real Slim Shady, then I can help the homies be down with Jesus. If I devote my time and conversation to a disposable pop-culture, then maybe Ill lead the poor deluded fools to a more permanent city. Trouble is, of course, when I spend all my time down at Pleasure Island, what should happen but that I begin to grow donkey ears, and begin to bray rather than pray. I end up worrying more about Valerie and Eddies relationship woes (or, to be slightly more current, Jennifer and Bens) than I worry about the relationship between Christ and His bride. Yes Paul quoted Cretan poets, but until we master the Bible as well as he did, Id suggest wed be better off learning Davids lyrics rather than 50 Cents lyrics. Meeting people where they are simply leaves them where they are and moves us closer to them. Interbreed with monkeys, and you wont lift them up. Rather, devolution will follow.
Our calling isnt to mix and mingle, but to be set apart. That such scares us scares me. Where are they now? In a surreal world. Where should I be? Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. This is wisdom not from a dime-store poet, but from the very Spirit of Life. This is whats best for me, best for you, and equally important, best for those yet outside His grace.

I am a follower of Jesus Christ, a husband to Aileen and a father to three young children. I worship and serve as a pastor at

R.C. Sproul, Jr. has some good things to say, but in his case one might also encourage him to say “Do as I say but not as I do.” Sproul hasn’t had such a good reputation in the pastor department. In fact RC Sproul Jr was just defrocked by the RPCGA.
Regarding RC’s defrocking. Read this article:

I just noticed that there’s some very interesting discussion is going on over RC Sproul Jr’s defrocking at the Challies forum at /forum/viewtopic.php?t=2329
Interesting article from Sproul, Jr. Also interesting is our tendency as the “people of God” to so quickly neglect to forgive others 70 x 7, or that “love covers over a multitude of sins…does not keep a record of wrongs…” and ultimately, that in this man’s case, he has went through a trial in his local denomination and presbytery, and we ought to leave his discipline in the hands of those whom the Lord gave to handle such.
Or…
We can stone him, like the Pharisees wanted to do with the woman caught in adultery. Oh, wait, that text might not be canonical…where’s my stone…
James, while I appreciate your encouragement for forgiveness, let’s not forget the need for repentance as well. Does God forgive sin without the sinner first repenting? Clearing RC Sproul Jr’s Name
Getting bored, Frank?
Time to stir the pot, eh?
