Free Stuff Fridays
- 12/03/10
- 13

I’m on the road today, so there will be no A La Carte (Booooo!). My apologies. However, we do have Free Stuff Fridays (Cheers!). Actually, let me give you one link: Amazon has Melissa & Doug toys at half price today only. These are amazing toys my kids have always loved, but we’ve rarely been able to afford. However, at half price things look a lot better…
This week’s giveaway is sponsored by Reformation Heritage Books, a name that ought to be familiar to you by now. And they are giving away a prize that’s, well, different.
This week there will be 5 winners and each one will receive the complete set of Journibles. You can keep ‘em all or you can give a few of them away (even for Christmas gifts). What are Journibles? Well, they are what happens when you smash a Bible into a journal. “The idea comes from Deuteronomy 17:18, where God commands the kings of Israel to hand-write their own copy of the Torah, or book of the law. The purpose of this was so that they would carry it with them always, read it, learn from it, and lead the people accordingly. It’s interesting to note that 3400 years later, educators have been discovering that most people learn kinesthetically, by doing or writing things out for themselves. As you open the book, you will see chapter and verse numbers on the right-hand pages. These are conveniently spaced according to the length of each verse. However, these pre-formatted lines are left blank for you to hand-write your Journible book of yourself.”
It’s kind of a neat idea, really. As you read the Bible, you get to write it out on your own—a great way of enhancing understanding and retention, and you also get to take your own notes. Pretty cool, eh?
So far there are 6 Journibles in the series. The winnres will receive:
- Proverbs
- Romans
- John
- Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 & 2 Thessalonians
- 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews
- James, 1 & 2 Peter, 1, 2 & 3 John, Jude
If you want to get a better idea of the format, click here to see a sample page from Galatians. Or you can visit the official Journibles site.
Giveaway Rules: You may only enter the draw once. Simply fill out your name and email address to enter the draw. As soon as the winners have been chosen, all names and addresses will be immediately and permanently erased. Winners will be notified by email. The giveaway closes Saturday at noon.

Wow … I’d love to win one of these!!!!!Looks incredible.
Thanks for the tip on the toys!
Tim,
Like tyre versus tire and colour versus color… Is “winnres” the Canadian spelling for “winners”??? ;-)
Sorry, I just couldn’t resist…!
Thanks for doing these giveaways!
Dan…
Sweet deal.
Thanks so much for the Melissa and Doug toy tip. I just ordered some and would not have know this without your endorsement and the link.
Thanks for this chance. I would love to see how these journibles work. btw: I also appreciate your captchas… it is very frustrating deciphering some captchas on other sites.
In my current Systematic Theology class our professor has provided study guides on which we’re supposed to write out both essay and list-type answers to questions that might be on the exams. I’ve found that just doing this once per unit, and then reviewing the notes regularly, has helped me get very high grades. And I continue to remember concepts and principles long after the exams. So just reading somethinging in a book or making notes or highlights isn’t enough. It takes writing down complete answers and thoughts to retain information. I can see how the same would apply to learning Scripture.
My friend Esther has been writing out the New Testament for awhile now. Her mother has hand written the enter Bible—in Korean. They both testify to the power of that exercise.
Of course, they just use plain, spiral notebooks.
Thank you, Tim, for the heads up. This looks very helpful for my quiet times. Blessings! ECR
I’ve got the Journible of Hebrews and I can’t even begin to explain how much help it has been. Hebrews is a difficult book with a ton of OT references and this Journible has helped me “connect the dots” better than any other tool. Writing out the book myself has helped me really trace the author’s argument and thought process.
Sounds cool!
I have never seen the Journibles before. What a great idea!
I purchased the Romans journible after you linked to it a few weeks ago. I totally agree with the comment from Daniel above - writing it out not only helps me remember but also helps me follow Paul’s argumentative process and reasoning. I love the left page to make notes as I am writing and meditating on the passages, and I still have plenty of room left to add notes at later dates. I have already been contemplating which one to get next - winning the set would make that one less decision I have to make! =) Thanks, Tim,.
