Birth: Congratulations to my friend Julian on the birth of his first child, Susannah Lynn (and thanks, Julian, for finally posting some pictures).
Du Jour: If you don't read Josh Harris' blog, now is a good time to start. He is in Japan and writing interesting reports on his time there. Did you know they have "women only" trains? Neither did Josh until he realized he was the only man on a particular train...
Theology: Adrian's last Piper Friday dealt with a talk given by John Piper about Charles Simeon.
Personal: I have just about one week left until I turn thirty. Is there anything I really need to get out of the way while I'm still in my twenties?

Congratulations to Julian! What a great young man, and what a pretty wife and a precious gift they have received. Blessings to them all. (As I tried to post on Julian’s blog but was confounded by sign-in difficulties.)
Tim, you should look for an old
Randy Stonehill song called “Turning Thirty.” It was a pretty neat song back in 1984!

Forty’s actually the tough one, Tim. I turned forty and everything was cool. Four years later and I can’t believe the slide in those four years. My perfect vision isn’t anymore, I wake up to weird pains, I sit in one position too long and my body complains—I’m seeing entropy at work in my own physical self. Didn’t have any of that at thirty.
Thirty wasn’t an issue. Be cool.

At thirty, you are still young. However, everyone under the age of thirty suddenly thinks you’re old—but not old enough to gain their respect. The solution is to buy a pipe. You don’t have to actually smoke it. It’s the look that’s important. It is a fact that people listen to you 30% more when you’re holding a pipe.

As someone who just turned 40, let me assure you that you are way ahead of the curve, age-wise. Of course, if you can get thousands of people to sing to you on your birthday, that’s pretty cool.

Get rid of any “twenty’s angst” you may have. The twenties seem to be such angst ridden years for many people just trying to figure life out. My son is one of them. I think you are too busy to be angst ridden.
