A La Carte (6/8)

Friday June 8, 2007

Bible: Over at Slate, David Plotz has finished his year-long challenge to blog his way through the entire Old Testament.

Islam: An interesting article in the L.A. Times gives a perspective on Saudi Arabia from behind the veil. "Starbucks had another, unmarked door around back that led to a smaller espresso bar, and a handful of tables smothered by curtains. That was the 'family' section. As a woman, that's where I belonged. I had no right to mix with male customers or sit in plain view of passing shoppers."

Du Jour: Jollyblogger writes about John Tierney of NYT and his article on Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring." "The mistake some make is to begin with the assumption that nature is naturally pure and pristine and man corrupts it. A better way of addressing things would be to see that nature is naturally fallen and corrupt, and sometimes man furthers and worsens that corruption, but he also is capable of reversing that corruption."

Weird: From the Digg wire I pulled an interesting account on the weirdest grave in the West.

Books: Sam Storms begins a review of "Pierced for our Transgressions."
