Gideon's Fleece
Daniel Block on thinkingly rightly about Gideon's fleece: "Practices that appear in the Bible may at times seem very strange to us. When we encounter them we may at times supply our own intuition to what they mean as we seek to interpret the passage. In a case such as Gideon's use of a fleece, we may even infer that since his strategy was successful, that it can stand as an approved procedure today. Before we draw such conclusions, it would be wise to examine the ancient world to see if we can understand more about this procedure."
AIG Insurance Bailout
I love infographics and this one does a pretty good job of showing what has happened to all of that AIG bailout money.

In addition, it gives the attendees a unique opportunity to interact directly with Joel Beeke and Steve Lawson on a ministry and personal level."

Gotta love the AIG graphic. It’s amazing what we’ll do to keep our house of cards from crumbling to the ground.

As a kid, there are lots of children’s Bible story books that portray the Gideon’s fleece episode in a generally positive light, but really, Scripture doesn’t portray it that way. It’s really a lack of faith, a testing of God.
Sadly, many people’s only awareness of the Bible comes from the stories they heard as children, and they think it’s perfectly fine to doubt God and put Him to the test, because hey, Gideon did it! But Gideon wasn’t exactly a sterling example for us to follow.

It seems like the lesson from Gideon is that God is really, really gracious and will enable us to serve Him faithfully even when we’re being really stupid about it. Other teachings have to be brought to bear to teach us not to presume, but we don’t want to completely bury the example of Extreme Grace shown here.

I’m in the process of making a very important decision which will effect my family. I stepped out of our local mall about 30 min ago and as I walked across the lot to my car I prayed very specifically: “Lord I am putting out a fleece to you on this one I know I’m not acting on faith but this one time I need to know not by faith but know by this miraculous event” then I laid out some possible scenarios. Then drove to my office and searching my mail came across Tims article on fleeces. If I was not so clear to the lord about my prayer I might say this was a coincidence. The Lords answer to my prayer was “NO” I won’t talk to you through a fleece, but I heard your prayer.
