An Upcoming Interview Series

You may recall that last year I did several interviews and posted them to this site. I interviewed, among others, Sam Waldron, Wayne Grudem and Derek Webb. I would like to put together another series of interviews to be posted sometime this fall and winter. I am thinking of turning them into podcasts, posting audio of the interviews this year rather than transcribing them as I have done in the past. I’ll decide that later. In the meantime, I am interested in gathering suggestions for people I may like to interview. I am not likely to have access to many of the top-tier Christian personalities (this blog may be reasonably popular but it is still, after all, only a blog) but am certainly not afraid to seek out interviews with anyone. The worst they can say, after all, is “No!” I suppose they could laugh at me too, and that would hurt my feelings. But either way, I’m not afraid to do the legwork and to request interviews.

I do not think I’ll have a topical focus this year from interview to interview. Rather, I’ll approach each differently based on the person I am interviewing. I would prefer to interview people with interesting stories than people who are simply the most popular. So feel free to send along your suggestions, either in the comments or by email. They can be Calvinist or Arminian, Christian or non, male or female, theologians or musicians…

wow!All of those names are great! For what it’s worth here are my suggestions:*Tom Ascol (Founders Ministeries) and/or Ken Puls (Founders Study Center) *Jeff Fuller (reformedevangelist.com) *Mark Driscoll (to clear up how his doctrine/theology line up with his colorful choice of words, so to speak….*ahem*)*Alistair Begg *Paul Washer (I understand that he has an amazing story of a drug dealer in Peru, while he was a missionary there). Also, having his wife on with him, Charo, to give her personal testimony would be outstanding!*Todd Friel (wayofthemasterradio.com) *CJ Mahaney *Hugh Ross and Ken Ham (zoinks! that would be somethin’)*Brian McLaren and James White together would be a zesty interview (and quite long, I’d reckon…with you not getting a word in edge-wise!)

How about some writers too? Donald Miller, Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker would all be interesting to hear.

KIRK CAMERON! he has been doing some amazing things with his evangelism ministry and has come out of nowhere to be on fire for the gospel and Jesus. He is a really really sharp guy who is totally passionate about evangelism and would love to be interviewed (I think, from what I know about his heart from his dvds and website), and you could even probe him about reformed theology (since, while he seems to me to be arminian, his ministry is extremely gospel-centered). who knows? you might turn a sharp man of God toward being an even sharper reformed minister of the gospel :) Kirk Cameron. Gotta love him!

D.A. Carson would be a great interview on a wide variety of subjects. It would also be interesting to get Stephen Westerholm’s thoughts on modern Pauline scholarship (and other topics). Edward Welch writes great books that help Christians with difficult struggles and I am sure he would be a worthwhile interview. John Hannah of DTS & WTS Dallas would be alot of fun as would Phil Johnson, the original Pyromaniac.

Brian McLaren and James White together…”

ROFLOL… cough. Um, that would be interesting, and yet painful all in one shot. I’ll pass, thanks.

I second Campi’s suggestion - go the route less travelled and showcase someone that isn’t well known but making an incredible contribution to the body of Christ. There are so many people like that out there in our society. I bet if you thought about it for a few minutes, everyone reading could think of a few people they know that fits that description.

Just a thought. :o)

any CCM artist who charges tickets for their concerts and is signed to a label owned by a large multi-national conglomerate”

For Steve or anyone who can educate me,What is a CCM artist?

Dallas,

CCM = Contemporary Christian Music.

Thanks theo. I figured as much, but I thought it might have a deeper meaning in the context of Steve’s post. I thought it might refer to a specific group of Contempary Christian Artists.

Tim - There’s a slew of musicians who are Christians, but not your typical ccm artist, that I’d be very interested to learn more about. Artists like Anathallo, mute math, love drug etc. It would be interesting to know why they’re not going the traditional ccm route and what their view is on their approach to their art and their saviour.

Matt beat me to it; I was going to ask for Peter Kreeft myself. I also second the motion for Larry Norman or Randy Stonehill, although I guess Larry’s in pretty bad health and might not be accessible.

How about someone from the Eastern side of Christendom, like Peter Gilchrist or Frankie Schaeffer? Gilchrist especially, I think, would be fascinating to talk to.

I tried a few years ago to get an interview with Pope Pius XIII (n Lucian Pulvermacher), who currently lives in a trailer park outside of Spokane. His Holiness never got back to me, though. Maybe you could have better luck. :)

Paul Washer’s name keeps coming up. I have only heard the one talk that he had at the youth rally and was very impressed with his love of God and hard truth. He may be just obscure enough to accept an interview on a blog. I would rather it be a podcast. I hate reading long articles on the computer.

Also John Hendrix at monergism.com could use a plug after he gets finnished with his website redesign/update.

also Ray comfort/Kirk Camron

May I add a request for you to post a transcript of your interviews rather than only podcasts? Personally, I much prefer the written word because I can take it at my own pace, re-read, ponder …

69

Thanks to Rachel for asking for written transcripts in addition to podcasts. Please include the interviews in written form. Some of us dinosaurs still can’t do podcasts.

Here is a name that has not come up yet - Russell Moore of Southern Seminary in Louisville. You and you readers/listeners won’t be disappointed.

Interview someone you kow who the rest of the world does not, who is being faithful and biblical and stays small and continues on in obscurity.

Not that the following are obscure but how about Dwayne Cline in Hamilton who is doing a great work with the poor there out of Hughson Street Baptist. Give our friend Paul Martin a go. There’s a guy who has a lot to say and most of it is actually worth listening to.

Blake,we already know you like Cameron….Tim,It seems to me that Paul Washer ought to be a MUST. Why?1. Missionary2. Was in Peru (Love that country!!!)3. Has a sermon ranked #1 download at Sermonaudio.com4. Everybody else here is in agreement!!

anyway my two cents.

p.d. If Paul or anybody reads this, pls contact me I’d love to hear from you. I got lots of friends in Lima, Peru :)

I don’t know what his story is, which is why I’d like to see someone interview Iain H. Murray of Banner of Truth Trust. I’ve loved his biographies and many of his other writings as well.

Others it would be great to hear from would be Mark Driscoll, John MacArthur, R. C. Sproul, any of the T4TG fellows and Ray Comfort.

I would also love to see an interview with a Catholic priest who converted to Reformed Protestantism (lay or clergyman). I don’t know of anyone like this, but I think that would be a great interview.

72

I think a good number of the people mentioned would make wonderful interviews. And how about the bloggers of your Best of the Best and Best of the Rest section of the blogroll?

How a bout Bono? Or perhaps Dylan? Not possible I suppose.

O. K.… how about … Wes King?

They all have a book to sell; an agenda to hype; their own platform to expand;

See also “gross over-generalization”.

Go into the interview with a pre-defined point of view and be very eisegetical. This method apparently works very well — Michael Moore is quite rich.

Oh, and don’t tell the interviewee where you’re headed ahead of time — Rosie O’Donnell is even richer.

:sarcasm off.

I would also love to see an interview with a Catholic priest who converted to Reformed Protestantism (lay or clergyman). I don’t know of anyone like this, but I think that would be a great interview.

I don’t know any of those, but I can steer you to about a dozen who have gone the opposite direction. Scott Hahn would be a good one to start with, and I’ll bet he wouldn’t be all that hard to reach.

Thank you for the long and excellent list of recommendations. I will make my way through them and see how many of these people I can speak with.

I’ve arranged the first interview and it should happen next week! And yes, it is with a person on this list…

Tim,

These are all great, but pleeeease diversify a bit. Maybe throw in a couple theologians for the sake of your readers, but I don’t see many people advocating artists and writers of the literary sort. How sad…

Scott Hahn?

Matt Swift of www.carm.org what a powerhouse of knowledge and faithful dedication to the education and evangelism to the “barbarians” that, with Paul, Swift feels indebted to!

Romans 1:14 I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.

… and, the irrepressible, Kirk Cameron! :)

Blake:

With all due respect, the guy that runs carm.org’s name is Matt Slick…not Swift. (Although, that is just as catchy!)He would be an interesting interview.
