What's Oprah Ever Done For You?

Apparently Oprah loves Amazon’s Kindle reading device. She loves it so much that she featured it on her show. Amazon responded by whipping up a coupon code which will remove $50 from the price of the Kindle should you decide to order one (something they, for some reason, chose not to do when I reviewed it). I’m not sure how long this promotion lasts, but I can’t imagine it will be more than a day or two. So if you’ve been looking at the Kindle and haven’t been able to decide whether or not to get one, well, perhaps this will help your decision.

Simply click here or on this little banner:

Once you’re on the payment screen, look for the coupon code area. Enter OPRAHWINFREY and $50 will be taken off the price. Shipping is also free.

A Reformed Evangelical blog speaking highly of Oprah - now that’s a first!! *joke*

If Amazon knew what was good for business they should have had a special offer like this when you reviewed the Kindle. However, maybe the new-age humanistic Kindle market is bigger than the Reformed Kindle market??

When I got mine they had a total of $100 off. If you signed up for their credit card that was $30 off and then they had an extra $70 off. Perhaps if people sign up for their credit card they can get $30 off plus the $50. I love my Kindle! And the books are cheap too! Books from Edwards, Calvin, Augustine etc are like $2-$4 dollars plus you can order the books right from the Kindle and not pay for the “Whisper” Internet to use Amazon store!…no shipping and handling charge!

I can’t bring myself to buy a Kindle. To me it seems like that would be a betrayal to Christian Bookstore owners everywhere. They have enough problems competing with the Internet.

And yet you’re using a computer when you’re putting typewriter companies out of business! :)

You will never talk me into buying a Kindle…I think they might be great if traveling, etc. to be able to read a book. But, the idea of not being able to open a book, turn the pages, touch the pages as you turn them…. you can’t take that way from me… an old song.Blessings.

Cannot stand Oprah, so it feels like using her to get a Kindle real cheap. I like books - it’s not the same when you read it on a computer…

I agree with you, to some extent. I don’t see reading a “dead tree” book and reading a Kindle book as quite the same thing. You just can’t replace the experience of paper and ink. However, for what it is, the Kindle is very good and it serves its purpose well.

Phew. The title of this scared me. Fortunately, it is really that Oprah did for Amazon and Amazon did for me (or would, if I took advantage of the deal). Would have hated for Oprah to have actually done something for me, and break that streak of 20 years (or however long she’s been around).

I swore off Oprah years ago. Now that she is promoting it, I am even more likely to NOT buy it. I was already interested in it based on your promotion of it alone. Her endorsement makes me want to avoid it now.

LOL! Calm yourselves! Giving money to Oprah’s idea isn’t going to make her “over the top” rich or powerful! Besides, I wonder what else you guys are buying that Oprah has a hand in? Don’t mean to make you all paranoid or anything ;o)

FYI … Oprah’s website says the promotion is good through Nov 1st. I have to say, I’m pretty tempted! :-)
