Free Stuff Fridays
This week’s Free Stuff Friday is sponsored by P&R Publishing and it features quite a prize package. Actually, there are 5 prize packages to win, each of which will contain the following:

  • Equipping Counselors for Your Church by Bob Kelleman
  • Uprooting Anger by Robert Jones
  • All 27 volumes of the Resources for Changing Lives series of booklets.

Equipping CounselorsThe newest of these books is Bob Kelleman’s Equipping Counselors for Your Church. Here’s what the publisher says about it:

Want your ministry to have a lasting impact? The best way to leave a legacy is to equip others to leave their own. Leaders want to change lives, and the best leaders know that a truly effective ministry must train its members to become leaders themselves. After all, God’s people want to change lives too but we are all tired of approaches that promise much and deliver little. We are ready for an equipping ministry that is comprehensive, easy to implement, and relationship-oriented; not program-focused.

The 4E Ministry Training Strategy, tested in hundreds of churches already, is a best-practice tool for empowering God’s people to make disciples. Here is the 21st-century manual for a Christ-centered, church-based, comprehensive, compassionate, and culturally informed mobilization of the priesthood of all believers, enabling the body of Christ to change lives. So launch a revolution in one-another disciple-making, and make your church into a place not simply with biblical counseling, but of biblical counseling.

As always, there are 5 prize packages to win and each of the packages contains both books and all 27 booklets.

Free Stuff Fridays
This week’s Free Stuff Friday is a little bit different, and I like it that way. It is sponsored by Reformation Heritage Books and William Boekestein who has authored Faithfulness Under Fire: The Story of Guido de Bres and The Quest for Comfort: The Story of the Heidelberg Catechism.

PrintHere are the prizes this week:

  • Two winners will receive a copy of Faithfulness under Fire and a print from the book (the stained glass window scene)
  • Three winners will receive a copy of The Quest for Comfort and a print from the book (the printing press scene).

The prints are archive-quality and measure 11” x 17”.

Here is a description of The Quest for Comfort: “The Heidelberg Catechism has been taught to children for hundreds of years, encouraging them to seek Christ as their true source of comfort. But how did this catechism get written? In The Quest for Comfort, William Boekestein and Evan Hughes combine history and art to retell the events that led to making the catechism. By sharing the stories of Caspar Olevianus, Zacharias Ursinus, and Frederick III and how they came to Heidelberg, children will gain a greater appreciation of the Christian faith as it is expressed in the Heidelberg Catechism.” The books are beautifully illustrated and perfect for young readers.

Free Stuff Fridays
This week’s Free Stuff Friday feast is provided by Christian Focus Publications and comes with an Old Testament flavour. For starters we have 3 biographies on Old Testament men of faith, Joseph, Daniel and Jonah.

Joseph: The Hidden Hand of God by Liam Goligher - Any regular attendee at School concerts will have heard countless renditions of ‘Any dream will do’! Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Tim Rices’ musical ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ has certainly brought awareness of… read more

Daniel: Trusting the True Hero by Sean Michael Lucas - Dare to Trust in Daniel’s God! What brings you to the book of Daniel? Is it the moral example of Daniel and his robust faith? Or is it because you want to dig further into the prophetic material that speaks of the end times?… read more

Jonah: Navigating a God-centred Life by Colin S Smith - Facing an assignment equivalent to being sent to warn notorious terrorists of God’s anger with them, perhaps it was no wonder that Jonah ran away - certainly portrayed in Scripture as no “super saint”, he avoided God and His call… read more (Note: coming in March)

For the entrée we have 3 Old Testament Commentaries from our popular Focus on the Bible Series including the new one on Amos by T. J. Betts

Amos: An Ordinary Man with an Extraordinary Message by T J Betts - Amos had no claim to fame. He was not even a son of a prophet. Neither had he had any formal training to be a prophet. Yet God called him out from a career of overseeing Herdsman. He was sent out from the south to bring the…read more

Isaiah: A Covenant to be Kept for the Sake of the Church by Allan Harman - Isaiah has been called the ‘fifth gospel’. Why? Because in it God speaks through his prophet of his people’s departure from truth, the need for repentance and the redemption provided by a coming saviour. Isaiah’s imagery is some… read more

Joshua: No Falling Words by Dale Ralph Davis - This exposition is rooted first in a thorough analysis of the Hebrew text, employing helpful insights from archaeology and linguistics, and second in the major theological and literary themes discovered in each section. Finally… read more

And finally for dessert we have the excellent Dale Ralph Davis tell us why we should read, preach, teach and inwardly digest the riches of the Old Testament…

The Word Became Fresh: How to Preach from Old Testament Narrative Texts by Dale Ralph Davis - “I am a bit puzzled over why many Christians seem to think the Old Testament is such a ‘problem.’ I know the usual answers to that, but I can find many of the same ‘difficulties’ with the New Testament. What I am not so puzzled… read more

Free Stuff Fridays
This week’s Free Stuff Fridays is sponsored by Shepherd Press. Before we get to the prizes, you should know that until the end of December all of Shepherd Press’ books are on sale in ebook formats. You can get details right here. It’s a great time to fill out your catalog a little bit!

Today Shepherd Press is giving away 5 prize packages, each of which contains 3 books on parenting older children. These are printed books, not ebooks, in case you are wondering. Here is what each of the winners will receive:

  • Time for the TalkTime for the Talk by Steve Zollos. “Time for The Talk will help fathers walk their sons through one of the most important conversations of their lives. ‘The Talk’ is much broader than just a talk about sexuality; it’s a conversation about manhood, about right decisions, about Christ.”
  • Get Outta My Face by Rick Horne. “Horne lays out a very practical game plan for the parent, pastor, youth worker, school teacher or counselor. It would be well worth the investment to get and read this book.”
  • Everyday Talk by John Younts. “God first gave specific instructions for being a parent in Deuteronomy 6. He instructs parents to talk to their children everyday about God and His ways. Everyday Talk offers practical, creative ways to do that. Learn how to use ordinary conversations to show your kids the goodness and wisdom of God. With clear biblical teaching, John Younts illustrates how to lead your children into a greater awareness of the presence and glory of God.”

December 12, 2011

I love beautiful design. Though I’m no longer a web designer, I still find myself crawling around the Web at times, looking for examples of beautiful and inspiring design. I came across just such a thing a little while ago in the NeuYear calendar. It begin its life as a Kickstarter project and, once fully funded, came to life. I ordered one as soon as I could and can testify that it’s everything it’s cracked up to be. I’m all about clean and minimal design and this calendar is just that.

NeuYear

After I ordered a calendar, Jesse Phillips, the entrepreneur behind the project, got in touch to say that he has been known to hang around my blog and that he’d love to give away some calendars to the readers of the site. In fact, he has offered up 20 of them!

NeuYear

What’s special about the NeuYear calendar? First, it’s big, which means you can see the whole year at a glance. Second, it’s gapless, which means that it’s more of a year-by-week than a year-by-month kind of calendar (which appeals to me since weeks are more meaningful to my workflow than months). Third, it’s beautiful; it’s just a great design. And fourth, it’s 2 calendars in 1 since the one side has the calendar in horizontal format and the other has it in the vertical format.

There are 20 to win, so go ahead and sign up. The giveaway closes Wednesday at 6 PM EST. You will be notified by email if you are one of the winners.
