Free Stuff Fridays

Today’s Free Stuff Fridays sponsor is once again CBD Reformed. CBD Reformed is always giving away great prizes and today is no exception. Today they are even giving away a book that everyone wants but no one can find—Michael Horton’s The Christian Faith. Each of five winners will receive a package of 3 books that includes:

Here’s a description of The Christian Faith:

Prolific theologian Michael Horton’s highly anticipated The Christian Faith: A Systematic Theology for Pilgrims on The Way represents his magnum opus and will be viewed as one of-if not the-most important systematic theologies since the final volume of Karl Barth’s Church Dogmatics.

Horton views this volume as “doctrine that can be preached, experienced, and lived, as well as understood, clarified, and articulated.” It is written for a growing cast of pilgrims making their way together towards Christ and will be especially welcomed by professors, pastors, students, and armchair theologians. Features of this volume include:

(1) a brief synopsis of biblical passages that inform a particular doctrine; (2) surveys of past and current theologies with contemporary emphasis on exegetical, philosophical, practical, and theological questions; (3) substantial interaction with various Christian movements within the Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox traditions, as well as the hermeneutical issues raised by postmodernity; and (4) practical tools for learning such as charts, sidebars, questions for discussion, and an extensive bibliography, divided into different entry levels and topics.

Additionally, CBD Reformed is offering a 4-day sale (January 28 – 31) on the following two products:

Anyone is free to take advantage of these special deals.

Free Stuff Fridays

There are some anniversaries that we remember with joy; there are other anniversaries that we remember with grief and out of grim necessity. Such is the case with tomorrow’s 38th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision. This week’s Free Stuff Fridays sponsor is Ligonier Ministries and Ligonier is offering prize packages based around a book that R.C. Sproul wishes he hadn’t ever had to write.

There will be 5 prizes this week—4 smaller prizes and 1 grand prize.

Abortion R.C. Sproul4 winners will each receive a copy of R.C. Sproul’s book Abortion, recently reprinted in a brand new edition. The grand prize winner will receive:

Here is a quick summary of the book: “In this book, Dr. R.C. Sproul employs his unique perspective as a highly experienced pastor-theologian and a trained philosopher to provide well-considered and compassionate answers to the difficult questions that attend termination of pregnancy. Dr. Sproul strives for a factual, well-reasoned approach informed by careful biblical scholarship. He considers both sides of this issue in terms of biblical teaching, civil law, and natural law. This edition includes a new foreword by Dr. George Grant and has been updated to reflect developments in the issue. Appendixes provide further background on the issue of when life begins and list sources for pro-life resources.”

This will be a great collection of resources to keep for your own use or to consider donating to your church library.

Giveaway Rules: You may only enter the draw once. Simply fill out your name and email address to enter the draw. As soon as the winners have been chosen, all names and addresses will be immediately and permanently erased. Winners will be notified by email. The giveaway closes Saturday at noon.

Free Stuff Fridays

This week’s sponsor of Free Stuff Fridays is Christian Focus Publications, a name that is familiar to most of us, I would imagine. And they’ve got a great giveaway for the start of a new year. Here’s the ideal way to begin the New Year with devotional readings from the pen of George Whitefield and a timely and much appreciated encouragement to private prayer by David McIntyre both published by Christian Focus. Five people will each win both of these books.

Hidden Life of PrayerThe Hidden Life of Prayer comes highly recommended by men like John Piper and Wayne Grudem. “Private or secret prayer is the life-blood of the Christian. The great men and women of God down through the ages have testified to the effectiveness of this in their lives. Some like Martin Luther, have said that they could not survive a busy day without spending 2-3 hours alone with God. Drawing on the experiences of people like Luther, Spurgeon, Muller, Whitefield and Wesley, the author presses the case for a greater commitment to prayer. His advice may not only transform your life, it could be a catalyst towards a change in the world around you.”

Daily ReadingsGeorge Whitefield Daily Readings is “the first devotional compiled solely from Whitefield’s works and provides an excellent introduction to the spirituality of this eighteenth century evangelical. In this carefully edited edition, Randall Pederson has chosen passages based upon George Whitefield’s letters and sermons that will encourage, inspire and challenge the reader each day. Bible passages are based upon the ESV.”

One of the most common questions I get is this one: How many people participate in Free Stuff Fridays. That’s closely guarded information, as it happens, but put it this way: if you play consistently over the long haul you are bound to win sooner or later. With at least 5 winners a week and 52 draws per year, that means at least 260 people a year win something. Sooner or later the random draw will go your way! Maybe in the new year I’ll see if I can convince the sponsors to come up with a greater number of prizes…

The God Who Is ThereThis week’s edition of Free Stuff Fridays is sponsored by CBD Reformed. They are givine away 5 prizes, each of which will contain the following 3 great books:

  • Ministries of Mercy by Timothy Keller – Retail price $12.99
  • The Cross-Centered Life by C.J. Mahaney – Retail price $9.99
  • The God Who Is There by D.A. Carson – Retail price - $16.99

That’s 3 great books by 3 really good authors.

Additionally, CBD Reformed is offering a 4-day sale (December 17 – 20) on the following three products. Anyone is free to take advantage of these deals:

There are 5 prizes to win, so get your name in ASAP.

Free Stuff Fridays

I’m on the road today, so there will be no A La Carte (Booooo!). My apologies. However, we do have Free Stuff Fridays (Cheers!). Actually, let me give you one link: Amazon has Melissa & Doug toys at half price today only. These are amazing toys my kids have always loved, but we’ve rarely been able to afford. However, at half price things look a lot better…

This week’s giveaway is sponsored by Reformation Heritage Books, a name that ought to be familiar to you by now. And they are giving away a prize that’s, well, different.

JournibleThis week there will be 5 winners and each one will receive the complete set of Journibles. You can keep ‘em all or you can give a few of them away (even for Christmas gifts). What are Journibles? Well, they are what happens when you smash a Bible into a journal. “The idea comes from Deuteronomy 17:18, where God commands the kings of Israel to hand-write their own copy of the Torah, or book of the law. The purpose of this was so that they would carry it with them always, read it, learn from it, and lead the people accordingly. It’s interesting to note that 3400 years later, educators have been discovering that most people learn kinesthetically, by doing or writing things out for themselves. As you open the book, you will see chapter and verse numbers on the right-hand pages. These are conveniently spaced according to the length of each verse. However, these pre-formatted lines are left blank for you to hand-write your Journible book of yourself.”

It’s kind of a neat idea, really. As you read the Bible, you get to write it out on your own—a great way of enhancing understanding and retention, and you also get to take your own notes. Pretty cool, eh?

So far there are 6 Journibles in the series. The winnres will receive:

  • Proverbs
  • Romans
  • John
  • Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 & 2 Thessalonians
  • 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews
  • James, 1 & 2 Peter, 1, 2 & 3 John, Jude

If you want to get a better idea of the format, click here to see a sample page from Galatians. Or you can visit the official Journibles site.

It’s Friday, again and already. Is it just me, or does the pace of life increase close to the end of the year? I know that if I stop to blink it will be December. This week’s sponsor is already thinking about Christmas. Here is what The Good Book Company says…

In the rush of the modern holiday season, it’s easy to lose sight of what Christmas is really all about. That’s why our range of resources seeks to put the focus back where it belongs - on the birth of the Lord Jesus.

AdventTo do that The Good Book Company is giving away 5 Christmas Resource Packs. Each winner will receive something for himself or herself and something to give away that will hopefully bring the light of the Gospel into several more homes this Christmas.

A pack of 3 Advent Calendars - These unique Advent Calendar Packs help families to read two or three verses from the Bible each day, discuss some simple questions and then pray together.

One Day WondersBible activity events for children and families - If you’re planning on running an event for children and families this Christmas, look no further! One Day Wonders will give you all the ideas you need to run a Christmas event with ideas for prizes, games, crafts, drama, quizzes, Bible stories and food! Ideal for engaging the kids in your church - as well as reaching out into the wider community - with the real meaning of Christmas.

Tracts10 Pack of Christmas Tracts - Christmas is a time for presents. It’s great fun giving and getting gifts. But what’s the best present of all? The holiday is also a time filled with false icons such as reindeer, jolly elves, the ever-elusive perfect family celebration. But what is the true message of Christmas? Use these great tools to share the truth of the Gospel with adults and kids alike. The winner gets a 10 pack of both of these helpful tracts. Give them away in Christmas cards, at carol services or to friends and family as stocking stuffers.

Finally, a 3 book set by Tim Chester to enjoy as you sit by the fire and catch up on some reading this holiday season. Tim Chester, author of Gospel Centred Life and Total Church has written these helpful tools on the Bible, the Family and the Trinity. This last book has not yet been released in the North America so you are getting a sneak peak!
