Book Review – The Case For Christ

The Case For Christ should be required reading for all Christians. A bold statement, I know, but it truly is an incredible book. I certainly would not say it is the best book I’ve ever read, nor the most profound. But what this book does, and does very well, is set forth in a clear and unequivocal manner, the evidence that Christ existed and that He was exactly who and what He said He was. The book follows journalist Lee …

The Demands of Justice

John Mark Karr has been cleared in the slaying of JonBenet Ramsey. Clearly a sick and disturbed individual, Karr claimed responsibility for a crime he did not commit. Only a monstrously sick individual would claim responsibility for the rape and murder of a 6-year-old knowing full well that the crime was not his. Some are suggesting that his claim to this murder is a well-constructed plan to ensure that he will not be convicted for child pornography charges brought against …

DG06 – Session 4

This afternoon Mark Driscoll, pastor of Mars Hill Church in Seattle will teach on “The Supremacy of Christ and the Church in a Postmodern World.” He was introduced by John Piper who said that never before had a speaker gotten him in this much trouble even before he had spoken! Mark took the stage and introduced his speech around the framework of two issues regarding Christology and two issues regarding missiology. Christology Driscoll began by telling the story of Jesus, …

DG06 – Session 5

D.A. Carson will lead tonight’s session, the second to last at this conference. He will speak about “The Supremacy of Christ and Love in a Postmodern World.” Carson began by reading all of the seventeenth chapter of John (a passage commonly known as Jesus’ High Priestly prayer). My generation, he said, was taught to sing “what the world needs now is love sweet love. It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of.” This song is remarkably vague when …

Resolved Conference (II)

Day two of the Resolved Conference was prefaced by a very good sleep. I feel much more alive today, for which I’m very grateful. The conference began a little bit late as filling the auditorium seems to be taking quite a long time. Because the conference is at capacity, the organizers have to be certain that every seat has been filled. So they fill the place very deliberately and this translates, at least so far, to very slowly. Thankfully, there …

Tuesday September 25, 2007 Cruel Logic Brian Godawa illustrates the importance of absolute values in an intense short film I stumbled across yesterday. Tullian’s Smaller List of Books In response to my post a few days ago, “A Small List of Good Books,” some have asked me to provide a smaller list of books geared more specifically toward helping a young Christian grow in their understanding and application of the Christian faith. Piper on Pre-Order Logos just announced the prepublication …

Book Review – For Us and for Our Salvation

Stephen Nichols is quite the prolific author. A professor at Lancaster Bible College and Graduate School and a graduate of Westminster Theological Seminary, Nichols has written several notable books in the past few years and it seems that he always has at least one title on the “Coming Soon” lists at Crossway or P&R Publishing. Nichols has a gift for presenting church history in a way that is interesting and in a way that appeals to those who may not …

Logos – A Review Keith Mathison offers a review of Logos. “One of the premier Bible study software tools available today is Logos. Logos is perhaps best known for its digital library resources, but it has also made great strides in its original language research capabilities. In fact, at the present time, it has one original language capability that no other Bible study software program has. I will get to this feature below.” Ten Digits CNet says that just ten …

Last Words On the Texas Department of Justice website, you can read the last words of over 400 executed human beings. Morbid, perhaps, but an interesting look into what a person thinks as he looks death in the face. The Guy Who Has Caught 3000 Balls Here’s an amusing video of a guy who has caught 3,000 balls at major league baseball games. The Poverty and Justice Bible The deluge of Study Bibles shows no signs of letting up. The …

Biblia – From the folks at Logos: “Introducing the Biblia.com beta release: a super-simple Bible for the web that’s backed up by the incredible technology (and massive library!) of Logos Bible Software. What makes Biblia.com so cool?” You’ll have to read the post to find out… A Good Monkey – I found this review of a new documentary a great commentary on society (not to mention a great reminder of why we cut cable a few years back): “Anew Michael …
