Win the New Biography of John MacArthur!

Banner of Truth recently announced that Iain Murray’s next book, a biography, will be titled John MacArthur: Servant of the Word and Flock. Murray has previously authored highly-praised biographies of Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Jonathan Edwards, John Murray, and others. I have had the opportunity to read John MacArthur and enjoyed it tremendously. Though by Murray’s own admission it is unlikely to prove the definitive biography of MacArthur (and really, how can any biography be definitive while the subject is still alive?), …

A La Carte (5/18)

This spring we’ve had rain, rain and more rain. And when the rain has ended, there’s been a little bit more rain. I am starting to get a glimpse of what it must be like to live in Vancouver or Seattle! But it’s not all bad–the world is almost impossibly green right now, something that can only come with this quantity of rainfall. John MacArthur – This is exciting news. Iain Murray’s long-awaited next biography will be on John MacArthur. …

Help Me Interview John MacArthur

In a week or so I am going to have an opportunity to interview John MacArthur. This isn’t something that comes along every day! I thought it would be interesting to have an open mic, so to speak, allowing those of you who read this site to suggest questions I may like to ask him. So here is your chance to ask Dr. MacArthur anything at all (anything at all within reason, of course). Let’s try to focus the questions …

A La Carte (11/5)

A question I receive a lot is this one: do you prefer the Kindle or the iPad for electronic reading. That’s a tough question because I flip back and forth. In general, though, I find that I prefer the Kindle. I think it’s because the Kindle’s e-ink technology represents a kind of halfway point between electronic and paper, between new and old. Having said all of that, nine times out of ten, I still prefer to read old-fashioned ink-on-paper books. …

A La Carte (10/8)

It is Thanksgiving weekend up here in the great white north. As you can see, we get Thanksgiving out of the way more than a month before our neighbors to the south. Though we celebrate in pretty much the same ways, we tend to do so with a little less enthusiasm. The official day we all get off is Monday and on that day I will have a guest blogger posting something I think you’ll enjoy. But first, the weekend. …

On Personal Bible Study

My knowledge of Scripture is nowhere near encyclopedic. However, I am quite sure that if I were to sit back today and read the Bible from cover to cover I would not find a direct command from God saying “Thou shalt read the Bible daily.” I would not find a guide to personal devotions and I wouldn’t find chapter and verse requiring daily quiet times. However, neither do I need to have that kind of explicit command in order to …

Strange Places

Recently I’ve spotted my book in some interesting places. This first picture was one I snapped a short time ago in a bathroom. My book is at least in good company there, sandwiched between titles by Sproul and MacArthur. While I won’t identify the owners of this bathroom, those who know me may be able to read the clues in the monogrammed towels and figure it out. This second photo was snapped by a friend (or really the younger brother …
