A La Carte (12/10)

A La Carte Collection cover image

The Yankees are bidding on Cliff Lee, offering him ridiculous amounts of money to come to New York. The Red Sox are buying up superstars. And the Blue Jays are pretty much standing firm, letting free agents walk and working toward 2013 or so. Such is life in the AL East. I don’t know if Toronto fans have ever figured this out, but every year the Jays’ management pushes off the season they are building toward by one year. It used to be 2010. Then 2011. Now they’re talking 2012 and 2013. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Google Rules the Web – “Google’s ambitions are so sweeping, the theatres in which its campaign is being advanced so dispersed, that it is not always easy to trace the outlines of the broader war it is fighting. Sometimes it takes simultaneous advances on a number of fronts to bring its progress into focus. This has been one of those weeks.”

An e-Book Revolution? – “By the time Google eBookstore finally launched on Monday, it was already being touted as a revolution in the marketplace for digital books. It offers more titles — nearly 3 million free, public domain books and ‘hundreds of thousands’ of newer books available for purchase — than any other retailer, and promises every customer ‘seamless’ cloud-based access to their personal e-book library from (almost) any device, no matter where they are.”

A Bad Day – Here is what I have always loved about Amy’s blog–she lets us into her life as it is, not her life as she wants it to be. And this article is another evidence of that. She tells us about a really horrible day.

Baptism Alaska Style – I enjoyed these photos from an Alaskan baptism service.

A Chance in Pharaoh’s Court – “Earlier this week a young man, 24 years of age, by the name of Keith Fitzhugh had to weigh the opportunity of a lifetime. He was called by NFL potential Superbowl contender, one of this year’s best teams, to get suited up and begin playing with them for the upcoming crucial games. The team: the New York Jets. You might be asking, ‘So what did he have to weigh other than a window or aisle seat in first class?’” Read to find out…

A Deal – I kind of keep my ear to the ground, so to speak, looking for good deals. Even though I only very rarely buy them. But here’s one you might like: Makita 18-Volt Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit. Amazon’s got it at a $78 discount today only. Also, be sure to check out Ligonier’s $5 Friday deals.

Go Tell It On the Mountain – Here is a stirring rendition of a classic.

Christ went more willingly to the cross than we do to the throne of grace.
