Today’s Kindle deals include one I don’t think I’ve seen on sale before: Sam Storms’ excellent commentary on Revelation. You’re not likely to ever see it at a better price than that!

The Need for Father-Scholars

The point of this article is that fathers ought to think of themselves as learners who deliberately pursue knowledge and wisdom in order to better serve their children. “The question for many parents who see this issue and want to correct it in their families—and I have dads in particular in mind here—might not be ‘Is reading good?’ but more practical. ‘What should I read?’ ‘What is my reading for?’ ‘How can I actually make time to read?’”

Teach Your Kids What to Think

There is some thematic overlap between the last article and this one. “If I’m not purposeful with my teaching, then the world will gladly fill their minds. The world has no problems telling them what to think. Every movie, TV show, advertisement, and radio show is gladly telling your kids what is cool and trendy. Every news segment is trying to win your kids over to a way of thinking. We shield our kids as much as we can from negative influences, but the fact is we live in a world full of catechists who are vying for our children’s attention.”

The Fading of the Flower

“No matter where you are on the bell curve of life, all flesh is like the grass, and the grass withers.” Very true!

Playing God With Children

Murray Campbell writes about modern-day “designer babies” (which is a much more respectable term than “eugenics”) and the ways people play God with children. “We know more about pregnancy today than ever. Through science and technology, our knowledge of little ones and from the earliest moments of life is staggering. Whether it is seeing the first heartbeat at 6 weeks or the baby moving to music at 16 weeks; the old trope that he or she is nothing more than a ‘clump of cells’ can no longer be sustained. And yet, the fight for abortion rights is as loud as it has ever been.”

Softly, Softly, Break a Bone

Kristin tells a sweet story about patience endurance and divine intervention.

Flashback: Tell Your Anxieties To Ask Permission

Charles Ebert Orr has counseled me to speak to my anxieties and tell them that if they are going to take up residence in my heart and mind, they are going to need to first secure permission from the owner of my heart and mind.

Our culture tells us that the problem is outside us and the solution is inside us. The gospel tells us that the problem is inside us and the solution is outside us.

    Shooting Up

Jonathan Tepper grew up watching his missionary parents transform the lives of heroin addicts in Madrid. Though he has wandered from the faith, his memoir may be the most Christian book you read this year.
