Have We Ever Been Woke?

Andrew Wilson has written a fascinating article that is essentially a combined review of two books that both deal with the recent rise (and decline) of wokeness. “The last 12 months have seen the release of two books that, in different ways, try to make sense of the social and cultural upheavals in Western democracies that peaked in the summer of 2020. (The terminology we use for these upheavals is highly contested: depending on who we are and whether we approve of them, we might talk about the rise of social justice, antiracism, identity politics, cancel culture, racial reckoning, intersectionality, the Great Awokening, or something else.)”

A Dangerous New Ecumenism

Ben Hicks warns of a dangerous new form of ecumenism that may be creeping into the church. Satan’s “trick is an old one: promise success on the altar of pragmatic compromise. Get Christians to tone down some of the divisive rhetoric, get everyone together, and watch what we can do when we Mormons, Catholics, and conservative Christians band together! Let’s erase doctrinal divisions, let’s smile and say that we’re all on the same team. If Satan can convince us that the best way forward is to get murky on the clear truths of Scripture, then he can undermine any genuine good that might otherwise have come of this moment in our culture.”

Nine Steps to Find a Home Church

John Piper offers nine steps meant to help those who are looking for a new home church.

The Joys of the Pastorate

J.V. Fesko celebrates some of the joys of the pastorate. (Those of us who are Baptist may need to slightly alter the final point, but that is easily done.)

I Will, if the Lord Permits

“Even the best of desires may not be brought to fruition here on earth. Even our best kingdom visions may never be fulfilled. And even our best plans may never come to pass.”

Have You Counted the Cost?

“Two things can be true at once. The gospel is absolutely free, and yet the gospel costs us everything. It’s free because we can’t earn God’s grace. None of us deserve it. We only have hope of salvation through what Jesus did for us in his life, death, and resurrection. We live because he died and was raised.”

Flashback: When Jesus Says Stay

God has appointed you to be his missionary right where you are. There is no one better suited to the task.

In family worship, be brief, be regular, and be flexible.
