Every Christian is called to bear witness to Jesus Christ, yet few of us feel we do it either well or often. Here are books I recommend on the subject of evangelism. You may also wish to consider my recommendations on apologetics, which deal more with answering objections than with opening conversations.
Top Recommendation
It can be difficult to know how to tell others what we believe and why we believe it, and there are new challenges that come with the seismic shifts we have seen in Western culture over the past decade or two. I have long recommended The Reason for God for the way it engages intellectually with the modern mind, but I am glad to be able to recommend a newer and briefer option as well. Shiner and Orr remain engaging and winsome throughout: “Christianity’s explanatory power, bracing beauty, and sheer otherness are some of the best things about it. It ends up making our modern, secular, materialistic Western view of life look a bit, well, dull.” I couldn’t agree more, and it is my hope that many people read The World Next Door and come to embrace the faith it describes.
Other Recommendations
As someone who is an obedient but not particularly gifted evangelist, I found this one interesting, helpful, and convicting. It explains why we ought to share our faith, it gives us tools to do so, and it makes plain what bold evangelism can cost.
Written in just the right tone and at just the right size to be effective in persuading skeptics to actually read it. It counters lies with truth and earnestly calls people to respond.
On holding firmly to what the Bible says about sexuality while genuinely loving the people around us. It speaks the truth in love—true love that will not affirm what God forbids.
