Sorry guys! I got the first part posted (with a few minutes to spare) as promised. I will post analysis tomorrow. I’m just too tired right now and I also want to have some more time to think about it.

After seeing “The Passion”, I did not run out to join the nearest Catholic Church. We will see if “The Passion” is of God or not by the fruit that it produces. So far, I have seen nothing but good fruit.I am seeing nominal, lukewarm Christians talking about Jesus Christ and reading the scriptures. People are coming away from this movie with a greater sense of the love of God than ever before. The movie is not perfect, and neither is Mel Gibson. You can pick it to death all day long and find all kind of things that are not right, but if the Lord can use imperfect men then He can certainly use a movie in which an attempt was made to not stray from the scriptures. No one in this movie is pointing to the Catholic Church as the way, but the movie did say that “Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.” Any movie that is going to be half way accurate on it’s potrayal of the crucixion is going to be violent, because the scriptures teach that “His visage was marred more than any man,and his form more than the sons of man.” So as bloody as the film was, it probably did not go far enough. Many people that have seen this movie can testify to the fact that it was “our sin” that put Him on that cross, not the Jews or the Romans. I have never seen so many specials on Jesus Christ and the gospel on T.V. People are talking about Jesus Christ. They are talking about the love of God that was shown through the cross of Christ. There are testimonies coming out because of this movie, and the word of God says “That if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto me.” A movie has been made about the crucifixion of Jesus, and men are mysteriously being drawn to Jesus.

I would disagree. Jesus tells us that we will know Christians by their fruit, but not movies or books or other things. God can choose to use a bad movie to do good things, but that does not make the movie good.

Since The Passion is doing so well at the box office ($150M and counting!) I’m sure we can expect can sequels.

After all, at least to those of us out in the cultural hinderlands (i.e., outside the LA beltway), it seems to be the rule that anything which makes enough $$$ at the box office ends up getting turned into a franchise.

Thus we can expect…

The Passion II: The Wrath of Saul”

The Passion III: The Search for Greeks”

The Passion IV: The Voyage Rome”

The Passion V: The Gaulic Frontier”

The Passion VI: The Undiscovered Brits”

The Passion VII: Regenerations”

…and so forth.

And then there’s the matter of the t.v. series and spin-offs. Not to mention the Broadway musical version, “The Passion: All This and Vatican II.”

It’s only a matter of time. :-)
