Who Killed the Music Industry? – We all know the music industry has changed an awful lot in the past few years. This article is long, but very interesting, as it explains what happened and how artists do (or do not) make money.

The Death of the Sunday Evening Service – Jesse Johnson suggests reasons so many churches have given up evening services. My church still has an evening service and I’d hate to ever give it up!

Grieving Forbidden – “We are edging ever so close to living in a world where grieving is forbidden–if the modern mental health establishment has anything to say about it. While that may sound wildly paranoid to you, consider the historic changes to the DSM (the diagnostic manual for mental health professionals) reviewed in a recent article in USA Today (May, 2013)…”

Zealot – I have read a lot of different responses to the bestselling book Zealot. This is one of the best. I have read enough of the book now to realize it is very much the same old arguments written with slightly better prose. There’s nothing to see here. Move along.

Vyrso Summer Bundles – If you are a Vyrso user, you may want to check out another group of their summer bundles. Cruciform Press has included one.

More Digital Media than TV – For the first time, Americans are now consuming more digital media than TV. Here’s an amazing statistic: “Overall, the amount of time people are spending with media is increasing with more multitasking across devices. Total media time is predicted to make up 11 hours and 52 minutes per day this year, an increase from 11 hours and 39 minutes in 2012.”

We are chosen as an afflicted people and not as a prosperous people, chosen not in the palace but in the furnace.

—C.H. Spurgeon

The Great Man and the Local Church

There is a way of telling history that focuses on the impact of the few great figures that rise up in any generation. This “great man theory” says that history can best be understood when we focus on the dominant figures of the time. History, it says, turns on the actions, decisions, obsessions, and natural…

    A Book Unlike Any Other

The Bible may be a book, but it is a book unlike any other. The Bible is inspired—breathed out by God and in that way perfectly reflects the mind and will of God. The Bible is also complete, sufficient, inerrant, and infallible. Because the Bible is all these things and so many more, it is…

  • Free Stuff Fridays (21Five)

This week the blog is sponsored by 21Five, a new Canadian Christian bookstore. In recent years, many Christian bookstores across Canada have closed their physical and online doors. This is disappointing for believers, as many of the best products come from abroad and can be costly or complicated for Canadians to bring home. There are…

  • New and Notable Books

New and Notable Christian Books for April 2024

It is surprisingly difficult to find a list of Christian books that have been released in any given month—especially if you want that list to be filtered by books released through particular publishers. That’s one of the reasons why I close each month by coming up with my list of New and Notable books. I…
