Good morning. Grace and peace to you.

Today’s Kindle deals include several excellent titles from Crossway. Among them you’ll find books by John Piper, Dane Ortlund, Bruce Ware, and others. (Note: Check first thing in the morning, and if you don’t see the deals at that time, check back a little later in the day.)

Why Is Andrew “Not Above the Law”?

I think Stephen highlights something especially noteworthy here: It is the legacy of Christianity that makes it so that a prince (or former prince, as the case may be) is not above the law. “The brother of the King being interrogated by police for eleven hours!  If anything is a clear demonstration that no one is above the law, that must surely be it. But where did the idea come from, that appears to be so obvious, that we all nod our heads? Sir Keir had no choice but to say something, and he made a pretty good fist of it.”

Sharing the Gospel Starts With Meeting the Lost

On the one hand, this is very obvious: to share the gospel, you need to be around people who need to hear the gospel. On the other hand, many of us could use the reminder that to be faithful in our evangelism, we need to be faithful to meet people.

He Is Strong Enough

Melissa: “Now I have been a mother for 21 years, and I struggle to carry the burdens of four children on these two shoulders. I think back and wonder how my wonderful mom did it. And then I remember that she had a Savior who is in the business of carrying burdens–One who invited the weary and heavy-laden to come to Him for rest.”

The Surprising Importance of “Shallow” Christian Friendships

I found this a helpful reminder that even “shallow” Christian friendships can prove very meaningful.

What We’ve Gotten Wrong About Headship

This article offers quite a few interesting insights on headship. It explains that cultural presuppositions can confuse us in our understanding of the Bible. “Getting male headship wrong is almost inevitable in our day, and this is not so much because the biblical teaching is obscure (it isn’t!), but for historical and cultural (not to mention hamartiological!) reasons.”

Is Fear a Sin?

Is fear a sin? Tom Sugimura examines and answers the question here.

Flashback: When We Go Unnourished

…if you, my friend, fail to nourish your soul, you have no cause to be surprised when your soul feels dry, when your faith feels parched, when you seem only to whither and fade. For the God who is so eager to give you his sanctifying grace, tells you how you can expect to receive it, the means through which he pours it out upon you.

We instruct our children more by what we are than by what we say to them; we restrain them the most when we restrain ourselves from evil courses.

—Theodore Cuyler

    The Deepest Thirst of All

The God who created us formed us in such a way that we are not meant to exist apart from him. To live apart from God is the spiritual equivalent of trying to live without food and water. It will lead only to weakness, pain, and death.
