Logos users, be sure to check out some of this month’s specials. You’ll find a Legacy Library Sale as well as some free and nearly free books. There are also deals to be had on Christian Focus titles, which include the excellent Mentor commentaries.

Today’s Kindle deals include a couple of excellent biographies, one of which is ideal for younger readers. There’s also a substantial list of general market titles (e.g., Bill Bryson’s The Body).

An Empty Nest

Tessa has a poignant article about the new reality of an empty nest. “After the dropoff, I returned home and put my shoes in the entryway closet. There were no Converse left out for me to trip over. Her black hoodie was not draped over the back of the couch. Her purse, Starbucks apron, and keys were not cluttering my kitchen counter. I walked by her bedroom and noticed the carpeting, which I hadn’t seen for years—no clothes on the floor. The bed was not buried; the closet—empty.”

Why Curated Content Is Better Than Clickbait

Daniel is correct, which is why I put a lot of effort into curating content that I hope you find valuable. (And I will reiterate what I’ve said before—this is all curated by me, without any use of AI or other shenanigans.)

Enjoying Your Own Decline

We are all going to decline, but only a few can actually enjoy their decline. “It feels backwards and counter-intuitive that this should even be possible, but that’s only because we live in a society that defines our value and worth, our meaning and purpose and identity—our everything—by the height of our ascendancy.”

Should Christians Make Mental Images of Christ?

The subject of making images of Christ, and even mental images, has long been important to Presbyterians. Daniel Nealon does a good job of explaining why it matters and why Christians should settle their convictions.

How Do the Sacrifices in the Old Testament Point to Jesus? (Video)

Jim Hamilton does a really good job in this video explaining how the OT sacrifices point to Jesus.

Dear Homeschooling Mom

Kristin has a word of encouragement for those who are just setting out into a new year of homeschooling.

Flashback: I’m Not All That Awesome

The gospel frees me to be honest about the ways I fall short instead of being crushed by them, because it reminds me that Jesus was crushed for me. The gospel means I don’t have to hide, because the good news of what the holy and all-knowing Savior did on the cross is true for me too.

We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow.

—Martin Luther

Tiptoeing to the Edge of Cliffs

Not too long ago, there was a trend in which people would see how close they could come to being hit by a train without actually being hit by a train. That’s about as stupid a game as I can imagine. Play stupid games, win stupid games, as the kids say. But researching sin when…
