Christian, Look to and Learn From Older Saints

Graham Heslop: “Like chronological snobbery, the West’s tendency to exile its old into homes with names ending with the word Acres is well-documented, not to mention indicting. However that isn’t the focus of this article. Instead I want to hone in on the Christian Church, where experience suggests that we do something similar with our senior saints.”

Don’t Overthink Your Problems

This is so important. “When we face criticism or feel uncertain about our actions, our natural tendency is to analyze every detail, replay every conversation, and search for what we might have done wrong. But Scripture offers us a surprisingly liberating approach: acknowledge clear sin, but don’t lose yourself in endless rumination over unclear accusations. Instead, trust that God knows your heart better than you do.”

Rebellion

Kyle Borg says it is right and good that the church has focused a lot of attention on the evils of abuse. He goes on to say, “But there’s another danger that seems to receive far less attention — one that is just as spiritually destructive and far more culturally acceptable: the sin of rebellion.”

When You Move and There Is No Good Church

“It never ceases to amaze me the sheer number of people who move to an area and find themselves frustrated that they cannot find a good, bible-believing, gospel-preaching church. I am not surprised that such places exist; lots of the country could do with at least one good church in its vicinity. What surprises me is the number of Christian people who actively choose to go to these places without having first checked whether there was a suitable church to attend or with a specific and credible plan to plant one if not.” Me too!

Alexis Andre offers some help on discipling teens when it comes to popular music.

Where the Gospel Still Costs Everything

Steve Lambert writes about some of the places in the world where the gospel still costs everything.

Flashback: Rest Takes Work

It was only as the weekend came and I faced the prospect of the end of the holidays that I understood the mistake I had made. It was only then that I remembered that I need to plan my rest as much as my work. It was only then that I remembered that I rest best when I rest according to at least some kind of a plan.

Since I know Jesus bled for little sins, I cannot wound his heart by indulging in them.

—C.H. Spurgeon

Truths That Take on the World

Christianity has a long history with catechisms—summaries of key doctrines that are arranged in a question-and-answer format. Traditionally, Presbyterians would be taught The Shorter Catechism, Dutch Reformed believers The Heidelberg Catechism, and Baptists one of the Baptist equivalents. Sadly, the use of catechisms began to decline as the years went by, so that it became…

It Doesn’t Matter What You Remember

I have a memory like a … what do you call it? That thing in the kitchen you use to sift the stuff you want from the stuff you don’t. A sieve! That’s it. I have a memory like a sieve. I joke about it at times, and about how I have to outsource remembering…
