KfaW – Fire and Knowledge

Articles Collection cover image

King for a Week is an honor I bestow on blogs that I feel are making a valuable contribution to my faith and the faith of other believers. It is a way of introducing my readers to blogs that they may also find interesting and edifying. Every two weeks (or so) I select a blog, link to it from my site, and add that site’s most recent headlines to my right sidebar. While this is really not much, I do feel that it allows me to encourage and support other bloggers while making my readers aware of other good sites.

This week’s King for a Week is Fire and Knowledge, a blog run by Joshua Sowin. Joshua, who serves as Website Manager for Desiring God, seems to have just as big a reading obsession as I do and this is, I think, what has drawn me to his site. Many of his posts, and probably even the majority of them, are interesting quotes from books he has read. He says his site “addresses culture, books, technology, ecology, religion, and other topics. Daily quotes are posted from Josh’s reading, and essays are occasionally posted. This is not a ‘blog’ in the normal sense, as it tries not to be narcissistic or contemporary, but rather encourage others to think about various issues through quotes, essays, and occasional links.” Joshua has been doing an interesting series of interviews in which he asks bloggers about their reading habits. I’ve been reading his site for some time now and always enjoy his posts.

In the coming days you will be able to see the most recent headlines from this blog in the sidebar of my site. I hope you will make your way over to the site and look around.

I continue to accept nominations for King of the Week. If you have a site you would like to nominate, feel free to do so. Thanks to all who nominated this week’s honoree.

So Many Dumb Ways To Die

Do you remember the catchy little earworm “Dumb Ways To Die?” In what was undoubtedly one of history’s most successful public awareness campaigns, Metro Trains of Melbourne, Australia, reached millions of people around the world with their message of railroad safety. They did this through an irresistibly snappy song.
