Rise with the Sun: A New Song with CityAlight

From the Rising of the Sun

It is a tremendous joy to tell you about a new song I have had the pleasure of creating with my friends from CityAlight—a song that wonderfully complements From the Rising of the Sun: A Journey of Worship Around the World. We formally launched “Rise with the Sun” yesterday with a debut performance at the Getty Music Sing! conference, and today we are making it available to you.

Many songs have been written that challenge Christians to take the gospel to distant people and nations. But few songs have been written that celebrate the joy of the gospel having already been spread so faithfully and having already drawn so many to the Savior. While multitudes have yet to hear of Christ and turn to him, we would be remiss not to acknowledge the multitudes that already have!

“Rise with the Sun” is meant to call Christians to marvel at the wonder of what God does each Sunday as saints across the world rise and gather together to worship God. As a new day begins, Christians begin a chorus of praise that soon circles the globe until my church and yours join in. “There’s a song that’s sung through the nations,” says this song. And God means for each of us to “Join in the song and sing out his praise.”

Please enjoy and share this lyric video. I’d recommend listening to it several times, as I think you’ll find it gets better the more you listen to it and sing along. (The song will be available on Spotify, Apple Music, and other apps in a few weeks—for now, it is a YouTube exclusive.)

Verse 1:
There’s a song that’s sung through the nations
Of joyful thanks to the king
Where the countless saints who are rescued
Praise Jesus who set them all free

Verse 2:
Hear the anthem sung in the islands
Where sun first touches the earth
Over land and sea it advances
Now joined by the saints of this church

Chorus:
Rise with the sun
Lift up his name
All through the earth
We sing out his praise
East to the west
Night to the day
Join in the song
And sing out his praise

Verse 3:
I will add my voice to the chorus
Of many people and tongues
For we share the gift of salvation
And share in the life yet to come

Chorus:
Rise with the sun
Lift up his name
All through the earth
We sing out his praise
East to the west
Night to the day
Join in the song
And sing out his praise

Bridge:
And the church will sing
Tambu (Fijian)
Heilig (German)
Oli (Australian Creole)
are you Lord
You’re the lamb who was slain
We lift up your name

And the church will sing
Shèngjié (Mandarin)
Santo (Spanish)
Kadosh (Hebrew)
are you Lord
You’re the king who was raised
We lift up your name

We will always sing
Holy, holy, holy are you Lord
Now you reign evermore
We lift up your name
Over all of the world,
We lift up your name

Chorus:
Rise with the sun
Lift up his name
All through the earth
We sing out his praise
East to the west
Night to the day
Join in the song
And sing out his praise
Come sing out his praise

Thanks to Jonny Robinson and Rich Thompson for co-writing the song, the Grace Fellowship Church choir under the direction of Allie Martin for singing the background vocals, and Stephen McCaskell for creating the lyric video.
