A La Carte (May 1)

A La Carte Thursday 1

The beginning of a new month is a good time to remind ourselves of this: Right now, at this very moment, God is reigning from his throne. All will be well.

I was pleased to see Westminster Books feature Eric’s Greatest Race and offer it at a special price. It has been a joy over the past couple of days to see pictures of kids reading and enjoying it!

A new month means a whole new batch of Kindle deals. Heading up the list today is Glen Scrivener’s The Air We Breathe which helps explain how we got to our current cultural moment. Highly recommended!

Write What’s Been Written

“Everything you want to write about has been written about. And that’s good. ‘How could that possibly be good?’ you might wonder. I know I didn’t always think this way either. I once wanted to write a book that would help Christians pursue purity from a biblical-theological framework. However, I never completed it because I found other excellent books on the topics of both purity and biblical theology. ‘What’s the point?’ I thought.” This may be helpful to writers and prospective writers.

The Dangers and Benefits of Revival

Justin Huffman asks some good questions: “What would it mean for us to experience a revival in our day? What would it look like? What would it necessarily involve?”

What a Friend I Have in Jesus

Read how a damaged and abused man came to know Jesus as Lord, through being introduced to him at Caring For Life. See how this supposably ‘dangerous’ man was found to be a damaged man in need of the love and compassion of Christ. (Sponsored)

Some of My Best Friends Are Inside That Book

Many of us find friends within the pages of books, and many find some of their best friends within the best Book!

What Happened in Canada

Don Johnson has a slightly different take than I did on the Canadian election, and corrects what he sees as a shortcoming in my analysis. Meanwhile, Jonathon Van Maren suggests what’s next for Canadian social conservatives.

Why Did God Command Abraham to Sacrifice Isaac? (Video)

Dr. Abraham Kuruvilla answers the question simply and with lots of enthusiasm.

What Is Covenant Theology?

Those who have heard the term “covenant theology” but haven’t yet figured out what it means will find clarity as they read this article from Stephen Myers.

Flashback: Climb a Mountain, Swim a Sea, Fight a Dragon

They wanted their salvation to be deserved instead of undeserved. They wanted it to be merited instead of unmerited. And so instead of accepting Christ they rejected him and instead of receiving his salvation, they spurned it.

Sin tastes sweet but turns bitter in our stomachs. Holiness often tastes bitter but turns sweet in our stomachs.
