I like to keep tabs on new Christian music releases. While most of the music that interests me falls under the categories of hymns or worship, I also appreciate some straight-up contemporary Christian music albums. What follows is a roundup of some of the music I have been listening to lately. I have linked to the songs and albums on YouTube since it is the most universal platform, but you should be able to find it all on Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, or any of the other apps.
Sandra McCracken
Sandra McCracken released Homecoming, a six-song EP.
His Estate
His Estate (formerly 20schemes Music) has been releasing or re-releasing some albums recently. Volume One has 10 songs and contains some of their core material (e.g., “Flee from Sin, Run to Jesus,” “We Long for that Day”). Praise His Name is a seven-song EP that was recorded live. How Sweet the Name is a nine-track live recording.
Indelible Grace
Indelible Grace has released a couple of singles recently: “In Vain My Roving Thoughts” and “Draw Near To Me,” both of which are modern adaptations of older hymns by Anne Steele and Horatius Bonar.
CityAlight
CityAlight has been making non-English recordings of their songs in live settings. They just released the Home EP in Chinese, which was recorded in Singapore. They were recently in Jakarta as well, so I’d also expect an Indonesian album before long. I’ve heard rumors of some new English songs coming soon as well, but we will need to wait, I suppose.
Tenielle Neda
Tenielle Neda released a full-length album titled The Garden, which features some artists you may know, such as Skye Peterson and John Van Deusen.
Commons Worship
Commons Worship (sometimes styled as CXMMXNS) released a couple of new singles: “Saved by Grace” and “To Act Justly.”
Joyful Noise
Joyful Noise released just one single: “The Risen Conqueror.”
Boyce Worship Collective
The Boyce Worship Collective (of Boyce College) released a four-track EP titled Rehearsal IV, which offers their enthusiastic recordings of several traditional and modern hymns.
Keith & Kristyn Getty
Keith & Kristyn Getty have begun to sing their way through favorite hymns from their Sing! Hymnal. They’ve released a few singles so far: “Give Me Jesus,” “Breathe on Me, Breath of God,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” and “My Song Is Love Unknown.”
Stillcreek
Stillcreek released a stirring adaptation of “All Creatures of Our God and King.”
Poor Bishop Hooper
Husband-wife duo Poor Bishop Hooper released Hymns V, which features acoustic adaptations of six hymns such as “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms,” and “Rock of Ages.”
Shane & Shane
Shane & Shane teamed up with Stillcreek to release a live recording of “Praise Upon Praise.” They also released “He Made a Cross His Throne.”
Emu Music
Emu Music has been slowly releasing singles, most recently “Just As He Said.”
Zaggie
Zaggie (Zach and Maggie, that is, whom you’ll recognize if you’ve ever been to a Getty concert) released the full-length Turpentine Mind.
PFR
Long-time listeners to Christian music may remember PFR (formerly known as Pray for Rain). They just released their first new album in eons: Target and the Arrow. (Also back with a new live album that will be releasing soon is Bleach, if you remember them.)
Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors
Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors and Ellie Holcomb teamed up with NEEDTOBREATHE to release “Promised Land,” a single.
Ellie Holcomb
Ellie Holcomb released the single “Flowers for No Reason.”
NEEDTOBREATHE
NEEDTOBREATHE released “Past the Gates,” which features Anne Wilson, and “Can’t Apologize,” which features Jonah Kagen. Both of those are singles.
Skillet
Skillet (recently interviewed by Alisa Childers about leaving New Apostolic Reformation churches and discovering sound doctrine) released After the Storm, a six-song EP.
