    Call to Worship

“Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!”

“Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!”

“For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.” (Psalm 100)

This call to Worship God comes from Psalm 100. Let's answer God's call by singing of His great power and glory!

Listen, as I read from God's Word, of the first people to see the newly resurrected Jesus.

“Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.’ So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, ‘Greetings!’ And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.’” (Matthew 28:1–10)

This reading was from Matthew 28.

    Confession of Sin

Corporate Confession and Word of Assurance Based on the Thoughts of Psalm 32

    Leader

Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven,
    whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the person against whom the Lord counts no iniquity,
and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

    Congregation

When we hide our sins, our souls shrivel up.
We groan in our hearts all day long.
But, You will lay Your hand of discipline on us,
And our strength will dry up if we do not turn.

    Leader

Dear Church, acknowledge your sin to God,
And do not cover up your iniquity!

    Congregation

We will confess our transgressions to the Lord.
And He will forgive the iniquity of our sin.

    Leader

    Let everyone who is godly
offer prayer to God at a time when He may be found.
Surely in the Day of Judgment, it will be too late.

    Congregation

You are our hiding place, O Lord.
    You preserve us from trouble;
You surround us with shouts of deliverance.
Forgive us of all of our sins.

    Leader

The Lord does forgive you and tells you,
    “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
Do not be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding,
which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you.
    Instead, listen to Me.”

    Congregation

Many are the sorrows of the wicked,
but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD.

    Leader

Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, O righteous,
and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven,
    whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the person against whom the Lord counts no iniquity,
and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

    Complementary Reading

Listen, as I read from God's Word, of the next people to see the newly resurrected Jesus.

“On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.’ And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.’”

“Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, ‘We have seen the Lord.’ But he said to them, ‘Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.’”

“Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.’ Thomas answered him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’” (John 20:19–29)

This reading was from John 20.

    Benediction

Now receive this blessing of the Lord from His Word:

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” (Romans 15:13)
