Bless us with discomfort - at the easy, simplistic “answers” we’ve preferred to hear from our politicians…
Like “Yes, we can!”
I agree with Dr Ron Jones letter to the President (Elect). What makes we slightly uncomfortable is that many churches and ministries who are SO vocal against abortion (and I am against Abortion) do NOT have single mother ministries - or are actively adopting or fostering or counseling teens and young women. Of course there are churches who are doing this and Dr Jones church has an impressive array of ministries to the community. But if the THE CHURCH of Christ - all churches - had such programs - we would make a significant dent in the abortion rates - some friends of mine who are doing this have seen the abortion rate drop 30% in their area. Just a thought.
A bunch of nonsense? I completely disagree. Sure, maybe I don’t agree with EVERYTHING in that prayer but that’s beside the point. There are important and good things in this prayer and we all do well to find the mutual, common ground and stand upon it. Challies, I’m disappointed by your comment.
With the utterance of the words “God of our many understandings,” it was made crystal clear that the only common ground is the sinful pride of men. This prayer is nonsense not only in its content, but in its being addressed to a fictitious god. Especially in that. Consequently, it is no prayer at all.
Robinson can call himself a christian, and even a bishop, but he’s not.
Jesus said, “If you are ashamed of me, then I will be ashamed of you on the day of judgment.”
That’s a scary truth from the King of kings, and only true God of this universe.
That prayer was a heathen prayer, not a Christian prayer.
Jesus said we must ask in His name, when we pray to the Father.
may the Lord have mercy on this man, before it’s too late. Amen.
I’m not sure which is worse — Robinson’s prayer or the way the conspiracy theorists on that site are eating it up.
I almost made the mistake of posting on that site. However, I am reminded that I should not cast my pearls before swine.Judging from the sentiment in that blog, they would have heaped scorn on me. If I would have posted a Scripture passage such as Romans 1:25-29, someone probably would have butchered the passage to make it fit the gay life style.They believe that anyone who believes that homosexuality is wrong is homophobic, regardless of whether or not they reach out to the gay community in love or not.
Bless us with freedom from mere tolerance - replacing it with a genuine respect and warm embrace of our differences, and an understanding that in our diversity, we are stronger.
I knew this was coming. It’s not enough to just “Tolerate” sinful lifestyles—we need to “embrace” them. Yes, I need to be emancipated from mere tolerance.

Every religion’s God. Can’t get much more inclusive than giving a nod to ALL the gods.

Don’t throw the baby out with the bath. There’s wisdom in the idea that we should rise above mere “tolerance” and embrace certain cultural differences. Diversity is not inherently bad. Quite the opposite, actually. Every tongue, tribe and nation.
Clearly these have been taken to irrational extremes, but they are not in and of themselves bad things.
