    Call to Worship

    I want to call on you to worship God today by asking you five questions. The answers you will give come right from the Bible and are written for you in your bulletin. I will read the part marked Leader. You respond by reading out loud the answers marked Congregation.

    L: Is God good?
    C: The LORD is good;
    his steadfast love endures forever,
    and his faithfulness to all generations.

    L: Is God great?
    C: The LORD is a great God,
    and a great King above all gods.

    L: Is God powerful?
    C: Once God has spoken;
    twice have I heard this:
    that power belongs to God…

    L: Is God worthy of your love?
    C: Love the LORD, all you his saints!

    L: What shall we say to such a good, great, wonderful and love-worthy Being?
    C: Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
    to receive glory and honor and power,
    for you created all things,
    and by your will they existed and were created.

    L: Praise our God,
    all you his servants,
    you who fear him,
    small and great.”

    C: Hallelujah!
    For the Lord our God
    the Almighty reigns.
    Let us rejoice and exult
    and give him the glory…

    Brothers and sisters, join me in praising our God who is both Good and Powerful!

    The Brevity of Life

    The Bible tells us that life is short.

    “Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow.” (Psalm 144:4)

    “Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath!” (Psalm 39:5)

    “‘Man who is born of a woman is few of days and full of trouble. He comes out like a flower and withers; he flees like a shadow and continues not.” (Job 14:1–2)

    “The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away. So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:10, 12)

    Life is short in this world… but never-ending in the next. Let's take a moment to solemnly consider the brevity of our lives and the eternity that awaits us.
